More about Bud:"Bud Caputo, retired music supervisor for the Montgomery County Public Schools (Rockville, MD) from 1983 through 1999, currently teaches trombone at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida and was the interim director of the Palm Beach Atlantic University Symphonic Band. He taught elementary strings for the Fairfax County Public Schools in Northern Virginia from 2000-2005, and was adjunct advisor in Music Education for The Catholic University of America (Washington, DC). His work in the public schools spans elementary to high school where he has taught band, orchestra, jazz ensembles, as well as theory, music history and literature, electronic music, and guitar. He was vice-president of the Maryland Chapter of the International Association of Jazz Educators from 1984-1995. He is a frequent guest conductor and has conducted all-county jazz and concert bands in Maryland. Dr. Caputo has presented workshops at the Maryland Music Educators Association Conference, the MENC Eastern Division Conference, The American String Teachers Association, The Mid-West Clinic, and the Virginia Music Educators In-Service Conference. Bud Caputo maintained an active private trombone studio for many years in the Washington, D.C. area. His history as a free-lance trombonist includes being a member of the Redskins pro-band, performing for traveling shows such as The Ringling Bros. Circus, The Lippizan...Expand for more

He has performed for various stars such as Natalie Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., Peggy Lee, Tom Jones, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Wayne Newton, and numerous other Las Vegas-type pop artists. His tenure in Washington D.C. provided him with performing a host of Broadway shows at the National Theater, Warner Theater, and Wolf Trap. He has performed at the John F. Kennedy for The Performing Arts in theater and opera productions. He was a member of the Beethoven Pops, The Landon Symphonette, and The Washington Civic Opera Orchestras. He toured with Larry Elgart and the Frankie Carle orchestras and served with the U. S. Army Band of Ft. Meyer, VA, from 1967-70. Dr. Caputo has earned degrees from The Catholic University of America, the Manhattan School of Music, and the State University College, Potsdam, NY. His trombone studies were with Edward Herman of the New York Philharmonic, Roger Smith of the Metropolitan Opera, and John Marcellus of the National Symphony Orchestra. He has studied arranging with Hank Levy and Sandy Feldstein. Dr. Caputo’s most recent publications include music for strings; The Star Spangled Banner (FJH), Blues for Dee, Manassas Memories, and Festival Of Lights (Alfred), Chanukah Oh Chanukah and Fun Tunes for Strings (Carl Fisher). Other publications, including music for jazz strings, may be found on this web site. In addition, Caputo formed a professional jazz string orchestra, The Washington Jazz String Project, that performed at the Kennedy Center in the spring of 2002. He has been adjunct professor on the campus of Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland, where he conducted the college community band, brass band, and jazz ensemble, taught trombone and Music Fundamentals. Dr. Caputo has taught graduate music education courses and the jazz ensemble at The Catholic University of America. He is a regular adjudicator at concert and jazz band festivals throughout the state of Maryland and at major theme parks on the east coast.".
