Elizabeth's Story
I've traveled kind of an odd path to get to where I am today, but I have 3 awesome kids: 14, 12, and 5. I live in the Minneapolis area working as an application developer doing development support for Oracle.
And no, my degree was not computer science - it started out as Marine Biology, switched to an Interdisciplinary Major of Biology/Geology, morphed into Engineering when I transfered to CSUN, and then I finally settled on Anthropology after learning that the Engineering Department at CSUN was too anti-woman for me to deal with at that point in time. (A couple of years down the road and I would have been all over it, though).
After the Northridge Earthquake, and nearly miscarrying my eldest, we moved me out of CA to Indiana, where I finished my degree at Ball State. Turned out to be a good thing. My area of ...Expand for more
concentration in Anthropology was Irish Studies, and Ball State turned out to be a good place for that.
I moved up to Minneapolis to study the Irish music community for my Masters thesis - but my husband was offered a job up here - putting my thesis on permanent hiatus. My path to IT started about then starting with my secretarial job turned IT Administrator/webmistress.
I'm still an active musician for those that remember me playing in band. I took up violin at some point in the mid-90's, and now play with the Dakota Valley Symphony. I occasionally play flute and sing with them as well - but mostly play 2nd violin. I also play out at the MN Renaissance Festival. Currently I'm between gigs. I'll know in a couple of months what my next gig will be.
I'm active with my kids, their activities, and their education.
