Butch's Story
Life
After high school I went to 13th and 14th grades at Dade Junior
College. Got a totally useless AA, went to work for a thoroughbred farm at the corner of Sunset and 117th Ave.
Was 1 A for a year and then 363 in the lottery. Went to California, worked for United Vintners, could have gone back
to school on their nickel but had no real interest in chemistry
other than on a cottage level. Returned to Miami, worked for
my father in the nursery business, inherited same, bailed out
in 85 and did CATV installation. During the aforementioned period, I lived with a series of good women and one lunatic,
wasn't worthy of any of them but learned a lot.
I had been friends with a best friend's wife since we were
18. They divorced after 20 years and my friendship with her
evolved. In 91, she was preparing to move to Tallahassee to help care for her mother. I felt that I had finally found the right woman, so I came with her. We have been married since
92 and I admit to commiting fidelity for the first time in my life. Marriage to a close friend makes things a lot easier.
About the time we married, I turned into the poster child for skin cancer so I had to find something to do for a living not in the sun. I went to vocational school here in Tallahassee to
learn computer support. I got a certificate in Electronic
Technology and another in Computer Electronics. Whoop.
FSU hired me and I am still there for puny money but good
health care. FSU is sort of kind of a state job so health
care sort of kind of makes up for the salary. I have had about
100 chunks of me either removed or shifted around by my dermatologist with the state helping on the bills. According
to the doctor, they keep all the parts taken off. I am hoping to get them back one day and make the world's ugliest wallet or

ybe attache case.
We live in the weeds about 15 miles south of Tallahassee in what a friend referred to as the dead, solid middle of nowhere. I love it. We are on 5 acres between neighbors who have 11 acres
each. I like that, they pay for it but we still get the benefit of being way the hell away from the neighbors. After 20
years, I couldn't live in town if it was free.
I am middle-aged, running out of hair, kind of like a dented
can, my exterior looks like hell but my contents seem to be fine. I am happy. Hope everyone else is too or can at least
take a joke.
Update: I am now retired from FSU. In between honey-dos I am trying to remedy a decade or more of neglecting things on our property (tree removal,,carpentry, etc.). It is kind of like being a lumberjack/carpenter/housewife since my wife is still working. I try to do a Donna Reed thing and have on a fresh apron and do my makeup before she gets home from work.
I still haven't mastered the whole cooking while wearing heels and a shirtwaist dress like all
the wives on TV when we were growing up. I do like to cook but I'm more likely to be in overalls or boxer shorts while doing it.
As far as retirement goes I'm still figuring it out but I don't miss the 40 mile round trip into and out of civilization that I did for over 20 years between V0-Tech certification classes and work for FSU.
I am still running out of hair, my beard is about the length of those yahoos on Duck Dynasty.
For 67 I feel pretty good. My only medications are nicotine, caffeine, alcohol. I quit smoking in the 7th grade for a month, quit drinking for a month or so many years ago when I woke up with someone that must have seemed OK when my judgement was impaired.
That was about it for abstaining.
Anyway, I'm enjoying myself. I hope everyone else is too.
