Buzz's Story
Life
I attended two high schools, Robert E Fitch High School in Groton, CT, when we lived in Mystic and Coronado High School when we moved to California before senior year. I left home about halfway through senior year and was asked to leave school. You weren’t allowed to attend if you didn’t live with your parents. So much for High School. After leaving Coronado High, I hitchhiked back to CT and lived there for several months. A close friend from Coronado, Rick Husty, drove to CT, and we lived together during the wild summer of 66. At the end of summer, Rick and my friends from Fitch all went off to college. I joined the Marine Corps. That lead me to Parris Island for boot camp and then out to Camp Pendleton to prepare to go to Vietnam. I was selected to go to The Defense Language Institute in Monterey to Study Vietnamese. I landed in Vietnam in late November 1967 for a 13-month tour. I was first in artillery and then a spotter (forward observer) for Naval Gunfire ...Expand for more
with ANGLICO up on the DMZ, in a tiny outpost called Oceanview. Needless to say, I lived, which was news to Rick Husty. A couple decades later he explained to someone he’d joined the Marines after college to avenge my death, but he’s living up in L.A. he was told. After Vietnam, I attended UCLA. I was still a sergeant in the Marines for the first quarter, but wasn't advertising it. After UCLA, I went into public accounting, picked up a CPA, and later went grad school for Information Technology. My business career was in finance, and consulting, as a CFO of a couple large corporations and then helping companies in trouble get profitable again. My wife and I are retired, have a yours, mine, and ours family with 6 grown children and seven grandchildren. We live in Shell Beach, California, on the Central Coast. Life has been good to us. We travel frequently to see our children and visit places we truly enjoy, such as Copenhagen, Denmark. I worked there for three years, and Kim's family was from there, so we go back every few years.
