C. William's Story

Life Finished high school in SC, went to school for radio/tv broadcasting. Imagine that! Got tired of that gig and went to Newberry College, SC. Got tired of that and went into construction work (mechanical piping) ONLY for the summer. I didn't want to work with my hands the rest of my life so I took the summer off to earn money to go back to college with, I think Clemson was the next school on the list. Right. This june I'll have been in the business for 30 years. Maybe I should go back to school now? Actually, I have been doing that. I have a total of 90 credits toward my degree. Along the way I worked my way back to NY, married a girl from Altamont, NY, (for those of you from Easley, it's a town right next to where I grew up in NY) had (she did, actually) 4 daughters, and now have 2 granddaughters and 2 grandsons. Recently purchased a home on Warners Lake so I have gone full circle and like the salmon, returned to the place of my origins. Again, for those of you from SC, the lake is in the town I grew up in. I mowed many lawns on Warners Lake as a kid for spending money and school clothes. I've been an ordained minister since 1999, and until this past January, pastored a church in Rennselaer, NY. just across the river from the state capitol of Albany. My wife and I have begun a new work in the same general area. My, how we do change! As I mentioned earlier, I am about to get my degree in pastoral counseling. An acquaintance of mine remarked that if God had gotten hold of me and got me straightened out, nobody was safe from Him. How true! Actually, I don't think I'm much different from that kid at BKW, or Easley High. At least it feels that way sometimes. What I have learned is that you must be true to yourself and do what you have been called to do and not live the life others think you should. I did that for years and ...Expand for more
was flat miserable. It almost cost me my marriage. What I really want to do as a pastor is to minister to the "children of the 60's" and revive that search for the deeper and spiritual things of life that a lot of us "hippies" were loking for. a lot of us gave up on ever finding it. That's one of the few things I did persevered at and discovered it is there and worth the effort to find. One thing I have become is much more tolerant, compassionate, and kinder than I ever thought possible. My wish for all of you is that you live your lives to the fullest, keeping hold of those ideals that we lived through in the 60's; love, peace, and helping to make this world a better place. What we lived through in our teenage years was something that I doubt any generation will ever see again. It was a unique thing in the time of man. May the love of God keep each and everyone of you throughout your lives. Be blessed! . Update 2/13 The wife and I are going to WV for 6 months to a year to start a missions school in a poverty stricken area of the state. At Christmas time we took 2 vehicles full of toys, food, and Christmas joys to a little community called Crane Creek. We discovered a phenomenal rate of illiteracy. We are going back to give them some of the tools that will make a difference in the lives of community. No Christian cliches, worn out phrases. What we have for them is a God of mercy, grace compassion, and love which mainstream Christianity doesn't have. We covet your prayers as we enter this new phase in our lives. God bless you all! Love Bud P.S. Hey Tim Chapman from Easley. Remember those discussions we used to have in Miss Phelps art class? You were right my friend. God was there all the time. It was me that needed to make the move toward Him. Thank you my friend, for everything and every prayer said for me. God bless you!
