Dave's Story

High School After working hard on my assignments for 2 years, achieving a 4.0 (highest possible) grade point average, & National Honor Society Membership, I took a week off from school, during the school year, to accompany my parents & grandparents on grandad's last deer hunting trip. All my teachers gave me the assignments for that time period so I could stay current with the classes. Upon return to school, my English teacher REJECTED all my efforts to stay current, even though I DID all the work requested & then some. This broke my spirit. We never contested that teacher's action as that was not our family way of living. Therefore, I was very lucky to graduate with a passing grade, even though each semester showed a decrease in my g.p.a.. Life Met me a neat doll at the Oak's Rink in Dec. 1959, married 'er in Aug. '60, had a couple really neat kids, and she's STILL toleratin' me.... after 53 yrs.! Live within 25 miles of Portland, OR, and am now Retired??? Only between "Hey, Honey, would please do .... " A never-ending list, it seems, but I wouldn't trade her for anyone else! Health was ok, then got "Stented".... but memory suffers a bunch & can't multi-task any more. My left ulnar nerve has been relocated from under the elbow... so 2 bottom fingers stop tingling. Been spending lots of time working on our Family Tree' but havin' trouble trying to get progress in the other countries for those names there, & to even get there with the Caldwell ancestors. Military Being unemployed at the time, I joi...Expand for more
ned the USAF to get electronics schooling, rather than take my chances with an Army draft. Lackland AFB, TX; Keesler AFB, MS; Thule AFB, Greenland (12-mos. - but at least Jayne Mansfield visited :-) along with Bob Hope); Turner AFB, GA. Passed all the tests, but because rank advancement in my specialty (Microwave/Multiplex Heavy Ground Radio) was frozen when I was to be rotated back stateside from Thule, I was screwed outa an earned A1c rank. When a chance came to honorably leave the military, I did so and haven't ever regretted it. Workplace With a high school major of Architectural Drafting, I never had the opportunity to do any of this type drafting, except for personal projects. I did get to do Mechanical Drafting, Technical Illustration, Schematic Drafting (the most fun for me), and a little teaching of Drafting. My next-to-last employer wiped-out the PCB Design Dept. (of which I was a part) so that ended my chance to learn PCB Layout and introduced me to doing electronic assembly work, followed by Stockroom Clerk, Receiving Clerk, and then Quality Inspection. My last employer had me doing all the Receiving Dept. & many Stockroom tasks... alone! College My college was 2 separate Associate Degrees... 1st = AS in Drafting Technology and 2nd = AA in Business. Both were earned while workin' 40-hr a week jobs. The 1st was earned in less than the 2-yrs. as State GI education benefit was expiring. I made use of the 1st degree and really enjoyed those years. Never really made use of the 2nd degree.
