Calvin's Story
WowÃÂ... So long ago, but then some things remembered seem like yesterday.
I really hated to see Kennedy shut down after our freshman year. From then on I bounced back and forth between Barstow High and Carson High School., where I graduated early to join the Air Force. My favorite teachers by far were Mr. Percy (Photography and Journalism) and Mr. Parker (Biology) Barstow and Mr Nochi (Art) and Mr Benson (Drafting) Carson. Quite a few here I recognize from going to Barstow Jr. High school with and a few others who attended Pitcher.
After the Military, I became involved with working with the U.S. Forest Service and Natl. Park Service up in and around Sequoia and King Canyon Natl. Parks during the summers and winters I helped supervise State of California construction crews bas...Expand for more
ed out of Sacramento. Mostly we did a lot of renovation work at the aging State Hospitals, turning units into residential centers for the California Conservation Corps to use.
I finally settled down in the Carson City, Reno NV area in the mid 90's and became involved in the aero-space electrical manufacturing and IT fields. When the economy tanked and so many businesses either went under or outsourced to China or Mexico, I went back to school, earned several Microsoft MCITP certifications and moved over to health care IT admin in which I greatly enjoyed the challenge.
Today I am more or less retired.
Here's to wishing the best for everyone and to us who just might remember a more prosperous Barstow and a Carson City Main St. with a Mojo's or small mall with a Geppetto's!!
