David's Story

Life OK! Gotta try to summarize this. Quit Camden in my Jr year, forced into USAF by parents, was let out after 3 mos due to a congenital back disorder, but with NO benefits. Did time in Healds Bus School. worked for a CPA firm a couple of years, thought I knew it all and went into industrial accounting and did farely well into management accounting. While involved in that, became very successful in drug-doing and dealing and eventually slid down to that deep, dark, cavern of self-abuse with chemicals. Climed out in 1986, was back in accounting but really got burned out; retraining for an almost old dog. Had to start all over, 1989 SJCC for a couple of AAs, on to SJSU for BA in Clinical Conseling and Social work, some Masters level classes until my fiance (for a third marriage) passed away from leukemia that had been in remission for five years--I was really ready for this marriage, not like the previous two. Dropped my Masters work and piddled around in Chem Dependency counseling for too long. I was able to maintain my clean-and-sober status through the most painful and dark part of my life--no desire to get high or breathe, but had many thoughts about wanting to die; obviously I made it through or this would not be available for reading. Applied for and was accepted into a Doctoral program for Psychology. Am half-way through and taking a little break at the Masters level before I move on--working part-time through-out in counseling/...Expand for more
therapy/behavior modification/CD counseling. Live in Concord, CA as a need to be closer to the campus. I volunteer every year to help Mike Robey '77 with the All Year Reunion held at Camden the last Saturday of July every year--the 28th of July this year for the 10th AYR. I am woking on getting Mike's printed message out to ALL on this list and the Reunion.com list. David Cambra I had my e-mail here but Classmates is such a ridiculously buttoned-up site, there is absolutely NO SLACK EVEN FOR SCHOOLS WHICH HAVE BEEN CLOSED DOWN FOR 20 YEARS and providing a method for the oldest, as well as the youngest reaching one another, is just NOT CONSIDERED AS ANYTHING THAT MIGHT REQUIRE SOME KIND OF ACCOMODATION FOR MAKING CONTACT--IT'$ THE BUCK$ YOU KNOW, EVERYTHING I$ ABOUT THE ALL MIGHTY BUCK, NOT THE PEOPLE. One might even consider that there is a certain amount of MORAL IMPERATIVE on Classmates' part to work something out for a school whose alumni numbers are shrinking annually. But that would require an organization with some minimal professional class; can't find it though, and even talked to two of their people, including Jo Ann Ray, Supervisor Cla$$mate$ Member Care Department back in June, '07. So, we are on our own, an island of alumni that just washes away, and without any real assistance to plan workable times and places to catch up before the tide takes us all away... David J.
