Camille's Story

12-15-09 I've been doing these updates at the end, and I bet no one reads them! So, I'll start from the top. My dad, who still lives in the old Midwick neighborhood, just had open heart surgery at the age of 88 and is doing well. I've been down here in So. Cal. for three weeks or so, trying to clean his house (he lives alone and hates to throw things away) and keep tabs on his care. We plan to go home tomorrow. For those of you who have been reading along, we sold our house in Sacramento, traveled the country in our 36' RV, and have now bought a house in Albion, on the North Coast of California (near Mendocino). The house is 100 years old, so we have been busy rehabbing it since July. WE hoped to move in by Christmas, but that isn't happening :-) Maybe by the new year? Wishing you all joy during the holidays! 2005 Wow, I've been avoiding this for years now. But I got started reading the message board today and saw notes about the neighborhood I grew up in (Midwick). I became engrossed and decided it might be fun to reconnect with some of the people I cared about when I was young. I am married (happily) the second time around. I never had any children (my choice) but have four cats and a dog, a busy life, many good friends. My father still lives on Hitchcock Drive and is just an older curmudgeon. I just retired three months ago from a 22-year career as a hairdresser. I don't know what is next, but I'm already over-committed with many activities. I have a BA in English Lit., a multiple subject teaching credential, and I am a UC Master Gardener. I still love to read and sing and hike and bike. I look different, but the inside is remarkably the same. I have lived in Sacramento for over 26 years now. I spent the first few years hating the place, having defined it as a hopelessly provincial cow-town. However, once I began to give Sacramento a chance, I've found it to be a great place to live. You do have to search a little more to find interesting things to do than you do in the Los Angeles area. It is a fabulous place to live if you're fond of nature and outdoor activity, with two mighty rivers running through it and mountains and ocean nearby. And recently I've learned that some of the people I grew up with live here too! Life is good. I do still chafe at being stuck in one place though, so I'm grateful to be able to travel. Our most...Expand for more
recent trip was to France and Italy last fall with some friends of ours. We spent time in Paris, Southern France, Rome, Florence and Venice. The best part is that we were able to travel by car and train so there was something for everyone's pleasure. We were only home for a couple of weeks when we decided to take a road trip with the dog to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone! Retirement can be pretty fabulous! That's it. I'm boring myself now. But I am really looking forward to our reunion in August. Renay (Dillon) Sprague and I are planning to go together. Yes, after almost 40 years, she and I remain good friends :-) Hope to see you there! Camille (Blancheri) Tinling 10-28-06 Well, since I have a lot of space left, I'll update: The reunion has come and gone. I had a good time and saw a lot of people I was hoping to see. I mailed commemorative DVDs to some of the people who could not attend (if I had their address). If you would like one, please contact me through Classmates and I'll mail you one. The reunion was such fun that I'm planning a grade school reunion for Marguerita. I graduated there in 1972, so if we can do it next year, it will be a 35-year reunion. Any ideas or help will be welcome! Contact me. Other than that, life goes on. I've now been retired for a year and a half. I thought my ego couldn't take it at times, but I think I'm O.K. and ready for the next adventure. We now have another dog, a boy named Emmet! That makes six furry ones in my house, four cats and two dogs. I feel rich in all the things that really matter. I hope to hear from the Marguerita people. I thought maybe we can find some of our teachers to invite to the reunion as Miss Giller is still teaching at Marguerita. I will start reading the message boards again, too. This reconnecting takes a lot of time, which I'm rather stingy with; but the rewards are terrific. Look forward to hearing from you! Camille 05-25-07 Yet another update! My husband and I have decided to sell our house and move to the coast. We bought a 36' RV (bus) a few months ago and have been travelling non-stop. But the travel is so costly and we have much more house than we need... I'm so excited!!! I gave up on the Marguerita reunion idea. I still love the idea of seeing everyone, but my life has been too hectic for me to plan anything. Anyone interested? I'd help!
