Cara's Story
Since there are many of you I haven't seen in a long time I will just post the full synopsis.
June1985: left for Germany lived there for a year
Nov 1986: bought my first old house to rehab and began working in construction
1988- dropped out of JCC to get married
1989: helped my husband (Peter) run a piano tuning business for a couple of years
1992: started working with my dad in real estate and started my own Painting and tile contracting business
1994-95: Built our own house, Queen Anne Victorian on acreage neighboring Dahlem Center (near JCC) did all the work ourselves (except excavation and rough framing the roof which required a crane)
2001: divorced; went back to school Spring Arbor University for degree in Computer Science and Business Management; started working in theater again
2002: Had a terrible accident at a home improvement center (brain and spinal cord injury) Tons of physical therapy and some assistance by SAU let me graduate on time in 2003. Recovered pretty well but there are still a lot of challenges. Since even my dad fired me, because I couldn¿t really do any sort of job, I did the grad school thing (Masters in Business).
2004: Got married to a great photographer and a great guy Kurt, moved to Muskegon and we had a beautiful baby girl Emma- busy year
2006: got MBA, did the dismal job search thing, and then Kurt decided he wanted to have his own studio again (because of my dad he knew of an...Expand for more
opportunity for studio space in Jackson) so Nov we moved back to Jackson and Nov-Jan 07 we remodeled the old Byerly¿s Studio building (some of you probably had your senior pictures there, I did). It was horrible!!! Very early 70¿s, florescent track lighting and a dreadful moldy odor¿ but the price was right. After a gut and remodel, we have a great new space for our studio, Studio One Photography. It has been fun and a lot of work to get things going but Kurt and I are enjoying working together. We planned to be a mostly children¿s studio. Kurt has tons of extra training in child development so he does amazing work with kids. Life has its own ideas however and we have ended up being a mostly Seniors (High School) place.
2008; finally unloaded our house in Muskegon so we have lived the whole current housing market nightmare and are looking forward to 2008 being a great year! (power of positive thinking right?!)
So let¿s hear what has been going on with you¿¿
Life
Just moved back to Jackson. Was married. Divorced and now happliy remarried with a 2 yr old daughter. My husband is a portrait photographer and bought the old Byerly Studio building, near downtown, which looked exactly the same inside as when most of us went there as seniors. Naturally we did major redecorating and are now open as Studio One Photography. I also have my own business doing biofeedback for stress reduction and some life coaching.
