Carl's Story

Life Life is good. I have no reason to complain. I consider myself to be very blessed. I have my health, strength, strong faith, family, friends, a decent income that provides the necessities of life. In my spare time, I go biking or running in the spring and summer. Also in the spring, summer, and fall, I play competitive softball and travel across the country for it. I belong to a bowling league, and we bowl weekly in the fall through the spring. I'm an active member in my church (Holy Trinity Community Church) where I serve as the webmaster. I'm a board member of the Outflix Film Festival organization. We bring independent filmmakers and films to the city once a year for a major 6-day fall film festival. I've met many film directors and actors along the way. I take great measures to keep physically fit. In the fall of 2004 to mid-February of 2005, I lost 75 lbs. going from 220 lbs. as most probably remember me, down to 145 lbs. How? I've been thinking about writing a book about it. LOL! Seriously, I went on a liquid dieet for 5 and a half months, and the weight came off FAST. I've very happy about the results, because I improved my health tremendously. What's new? I'm looking forward to getting a promotion by the end of 2007. I'd like to move to either Ft. Lauderdale or Phoenix mainly for the weather. I HATE the cold weather for any amount of time. School High school, academically was great! It provided me with a very good educational foundation that has since served me well in life. All of my teachers influenced me in some way. At that time, we really don't appreciate or see the benefit of their structure. Trust me, in time we all will grow to appreciate how much they wanted to prepare us to move on in life. College My college days are now a blurr. I sometimes can't believe that I've been out of college for as long as I have. I was the typical, nerdy, ge...Expand for more
eky, bookworm who studied all the time and spent countless hours in computer labs, even on weekends. I never attended a single sporting event or party on campus during my entire time at MSU. That's the only part I would change if I had it to do all over again. I met and still keep in touch with several people from MSU. Even though they live in other parts of the country, I've made trips to visit them, and they've done the same for me. I wouldn't trade my MSU education for anything in the world. Workplace 1990 - 1992 - I moved to Memphis and began working at a computer repair company called National Repair. They were a small firm, but ended up going out of business in 1992 when we all found out that the president and vice president of the company was using to the company to funnel drugs into the country from Mexico. 1992 - 2000 - I worked for FedEx for 8 years working my way up the ranks from programmer, sr. programmer, programmer / analyst, to sr. programmer analyst. My years at FedEx were great! I loved being able to jumpseat on the FedEx planes to travel all over the country. I especially loved riding in the cockpit with the pilots. It's an unforgettable view and experience. They no longer allow jumpseaters to ride on the planes since Sept. 11, 2001. 2008 - Today - I'm currently employed at International Paper Company in Memphis, TN. I started out as a Data Warehouse Developer, and now since we've switched to a SAP shop, I'm a SAP Business Intelligence developer. You might have seen some television commercials with people talking about using SAP for their middle-sized businesses. That's the software/tools I use in my daily job. I also have a good background in structured computer programming including Pascal, COBOL, Fortran, Assembler, C, C++, Javascript, UNIS shell scripting, and now SAP ABAP programming. Overall, I love what I do, and can't imagine doing anything else.
