Carla's Story
Life
After graduation, I worked a few months as a waitress, then a little over a year for an insurance company. I decided to see the world--joined the Air Force in 1972 and liked it enough to stay in until I retired in 1996. I saw part of the world--5 years in Germany and a year in Korea. The rest of my tours were stateside--Mississippi, Virginia, Florida, Ohio, and back to Texas until I retired. I married in 1973 and had a daughter in 1974, a son in 1977, and twin boys in 1981. My kids are great, and were well worth a difficult marriage. Fortunately, God is forgiving, and he let my perfect mate find me. Spencer and I married in 1995, and we're living happily ever after! I'm happy to be where I am in my life. I love God, and as He promises, all things have worked together for good.
My husband and I built a home in the country. We're not exactly ranchers, but Spencer keeps the tractor running and I hop on and keep the mesquite knocked down on the property. We have a few farm animals, Germa...Expand for more
n Shepherds, and chickens.
My husband and I have 6 children and 5 grandchildren between us--all wonderful blessings. I taught special education for 7 years after retiring from the Air Force. Now, I'm semi-retired, working around the farm and doing seasonal tax preparation. I enjoy the flexibility and variety that not having a "real" job affords.
I sing and minister with a gospel group called The Steel Magnolias. I get to hang out with a terrific group of ladies, have fun, travel, and share the love of Jesus.
Workplace
Waitress, insurance clerk/junior claims examiner, Air Force stenographer/administrative specialist/information manager (24.5 years), mother, wife/housekeeper, part-time telemarketer, special education teacher, substitute teacher, and tax preparation associate--that's about it. I like variety! As a child, I wanted to be a singer when I grew up, and that's finally been fulfilled--I lead music at church and sing with a gospel group. I don't get paid, but it has its rewards.
