Carla's Story

Life September 29, 2006 - A quick run-down of some of the events in my life: 1985-87 - Went to Northwood Univ. for an associates degree; June 1987 - Hired on full time at Dow; June 1988 - Married Chris Samuel; March 1988 - Bought our "first" house in Bay City; 1988-1992 - Went back to Northwood for a couple classes (going for that business degree ya know); 1989 or 90 - Bought our first Westie puppy "Mac"; 1992 - Bought our current home in Auburn--back in the country yes! Guess I'm not a city dweller. 1993 - Got bored with the school thing, got pregnant instead; March 1994 - Our identical twin boys arrived (next year + is a blur); 1995 - Chris' dad passed away; 2000 - Chris was very ill (thanks to U of M he is great now); 2003 - Mac died (13 years old)--he was a good doggie; 2003-2005 - Put an addition on our house (we are still trying to finish it--we do all the construction/finish work); 2004 - bought two more Westies; 2005 - You guessed it - back to college to try for that biz degree (again). 2007 - Still going to Northwood. Kids are "teenagers" now. I'm over 40 (doesn't seem possible). I'm still gardening (perennial flower gardens, not the veggie kind). I do great with flowers, not so great with the veggies. As you can see, I've just been ...Expand for more
going along in life. I can't complain, everything has been pretty good for me so far. We keep busy and the boys are growing like weeds. By the end of 6th grade they were already taller than me and they remind me as often as they can. Their next goal is to be taller than their dad. We got lucky in that our kids are both mild mannered and best friends. They aren't into organized sports (yet) -- just like to get out with their friends and play any sport (and yes, video games -- anyone out there with RuneScape players). We bought two Westies so that they have each other to play with which sometimes lets us off the hook. I'm still working at Dow in the Intellectual Property Law Dept as a paralegal. We live in Auburn, not in town but about 5 miles out on 30 wooded acres. Not my parents 180 acres, but for me, it is much better than in town. I'm just not cut out to live in town. My parents are doing well and still live in Wheeler. Both have retired and are just putzin' around the homestead. I love to garden (flowers not veggies). I've tried veggies, I'm just not very good at it. Maybe my heart just isn't into it. I am constantly out putting in a new garden, planting something new, moving a plant (or tree) to a new location or just walking around the yard.
