Enlisted in the Navy in October of 1977 and pursued a position as a Navy SEAL. Strange because I really did not know how to swim. I learned to swim the hard way, while as student in the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL school (BUD/S). In August 1978, I completed Basic SEAL training and entered into an adventurous 10 years as an enlisted SEAL at SEAL Team TWO in Virginia. I decided that I had accomlished all I could in the enlisted ranks and looked towards gaining a degree and becoming an officer. While serving as an instructor at our basic SEAL school, I completed my BS in 1987 and became an officer (stayed a SEAL). I completed the Spanish language course at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA then transferred to SEAL Team FOUR in Virginia.
