Carlos's Story
Life
During High School I worked at Spencer Gifts at Paramus mall. After graduation from EHS in 1967 I went to work at a local store for about a year. I then moved to Philadelphia where I had also lived and began working for the Phila. Gas Works Co, Then on July 22, 1969 I was drafted and reported back to Paterson to the local Draft Board operated by a Mrs. Rose Crescione. The Morning Call Newspaper took a picture of the 15 young men who would be deoarting to Fort Dix. I have a copy of that picture. From Dix I was transferred to Fort Sam Houston, Texas ...Expand for more
where I did my bootcamp and was subsequently trained as a Combat Infantry Medic. I was never sent to Viet Nam and instead completed the remainder of my duty at Fort Sill OK working as a medic out of the Flight Dispensary. On July21, 1971 I left active duty but went on to do 4 years of active reserve and 2 years with the NJ National Guard. In 1975 I worked for the Paterson Department of Public Works. In 1977 I became a Police officer and fulfilled my responsibilities for the next 27 years. I retired as a Det/Lt. on March 1, 2004. I had a wonderful career.
