CLASS OF 1982
Santa maria, CA

Carlos's Story

Hello fellow Warriors! You may or may not remember me. I was neither a jock,an ag,or a surfer. Pretty much walked by those hallowed walls that supported such interesting folks. I guess that makes me an Independant:) I went to Righetti from 79-81 and ended up moving to Tucson, Az. for my senior year. Still managed to stay in touch with a number of Righetti friends over the years. The family chose to move back to Santa Maria in late '82 and I bumped in and out of Hancock for a few years until I chose to move to LA in '86. Lived in LA-Long Beach through '99. Took a job transfer to a small town in Kansas of all places in 2000(talk about culture shock!). The silver lining there was meeting my soulmate(Laura), and we have been a couple ever since. We made it back to Calif. on yet another transfer in 2001 and lived in Long Beach until 2007. We decided that we needed a break from the big city and moved back to that cozy little Kansas town(Hutchinson)in '07. A job offer that I could not refuse came recently from a South African Aluminum co...Expand for more
mpany that requires I live in So Calif, so he we are mvoing back to Calif. again! Laura is elated, while I am a bit more cautious given California's recent economic and social woes. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, and you certainly cannot compare the weather and access to cultural activities. I am staying with family here in SM until we find something suitable in LA/OC and Laura is done with her teaching commitment in Ks. It's somewhat surreal to be back here with all of the changes that have taken place over the years. Hutchinson reminded me of Santa Maria when it was smaller and I will miss it, but it is time to write yet another life chapter.I have been in the aluminum industry for over 23 years now and it has provided me some great travel opportunities that I would have otherwise not been able to enjoy. I have been to Japan,Russia,The UK,lots of great US cities, and recently spent some time in South Africa. All these roads now take me back to Santa Maria of all places! A truly amazing planet that we live in!
