Carlyle's Story
Life
Carlisle Grissett was born 1946 in South Carolina.He studied at the Art Students' League of New York City for five years with the late Art Anatomists,PH.D.,Master Robert B.Hale and the well known artists Gregory D'Alessio and Gustav Rehbgerger. He also studied at the University of Visual Arts for two years and at the Art lab of Staten Island ,New York for one year.
He is a lifetime member of the Art Students' League of New York City and an honorary member of the Friends of David Walker of Wilmington, North Carolina. He received a certificate of appreciation from the city of Wilmington, North Carolina for volunteer services and is registered with the North Carolina Arts Council.
Carlisle's exhibits in New York include- Art Students' League of New York City;Billy Holiday Theatre of Brooklyn, New York;the General Post Office of New York;And Brown'sGuest House of Brooklyn, New York.He has exhibited in North Carolina at the following locations-Brunswick community College of Supply, West Pender Middle School of Burgaw,Goldsboro High School,and Fayetteville Museum of Art.In Wilmington, North Carolina Carlisle has exhibited at St.John's Museum of art,Wrightsville Gallery, University of North Carolina at Wilmington,Phoenix Rising Ar...Expand for more

His credits include a three year contract with Artfull Greeting card co of Durham North Carolina,a portrait in oil paint of Frederick Douglass for the movie Amos and Andrew, a memorial wall design for the 24th. Infantry Regiment Association Columbia, South Carolina,five church murals sizes 4'by 13'to 9'by 14'along with numerous commissioned art works.
Carlisle instructed art classes for the Heritage School,University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Communty Art Center,Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,Inc.,Wilmington Parks and Recreation,City of wilmington Housing Authority and DREAMS Inc. all of Willmington,North Carolina.
Carlisle is a firm believer in the basic fundamentals of drawing from the old masters-lights,shade,artistic anatomy,perspective,design,plane,mass and proportion.
He feels that his personal freedom is assured by the basic fundamentals of drawing and painting with the artistic application of the principles of design in composition.
