Carmelita's Story
After I left Linxoln High School, I,entered nursing school at Santa Clara County Hospital, with a San Jose State affiliation. I completed that,, and moved to Southern California. There, I married, became the mother of two chjldren, all the time continuing to work in my chosen professio. After a few years, (less than 6) I divorced my husband, and continued to work. I met a gentleman, with whom I thought I could share my life with, but that was not to be. After two years of that marriage, I again sought dissolution of that narruage, There were no children of that union.
Time passed, and I continued to work, all of this time gaining knowledge and experience to avail myself of leadership roles in nursing. During this time, my oldest chid, my son, developed kidney cancer, a diseae that ended his life at the age of 21 years. , In order to cope with the loss, I returned to school, California State University, to obtain my Bachelors degree. i discovered that I truly enjpoyed being a student again, so I continued in school and obtained my Masters' degree in Nursing at The University of California at Los Angeles. During this marriage, I gave birth to another child, a daughter The stress of dealing with the loss of a child damaged my third marriage, and that too, ended.
Now I am continuing to work at my chosen profession. I enjoy my family, which now includes 6 grandchildren. I travel througout California, Nevada, Arizona, and some points east. I am looking forward to retirement, but for now, I truly enjoy my work as manager of the intensive care unit in a local hospital.
