Carmen's Story
My father was in the Navy so I always prayed we’d get more than a year or two in schools. I was so fortunate that I got to go to school at First Colonial High School from eighth grade through 10th grade. It was such a great time and I knew so many wonderful classmates and staff. I still miss the people at First Colonial. Good memories! 👍😅
My Father retired and moved us to Merritt Island, which is very close to Cape Canaveral. He worked on the Apollo shots for a while, but not long enough to keep me in Merritt Island high school for more than a year. It was such a fun place and the students that I knew were wonderful and free. We could dress however we wanted and the guys wore their hair very long We spent a lot of time at at Cocoa Beach. magine and they’re both wonde rful cities even with their crime. I went to University of Maryland Baltimore County and majored in ancient history which was useless, but fascinating. Baltimore is home and I hope to return one day.
Years later, after working in schools as teachers, teachers aids, and in the marketing department of community college, I decided to go back to college at East Carolina University and study computer science. That turned out to be the love of my life. I love computers and work was completely fulfilling working in that field. I was just very natural which was surprising because I wasn’t necessarily a great math student in high school, but it all made sense in college.
I got married on November 24th, 1984 and am still married. It’s a miracle, truly. We have since retired and live in Lexington Kentucky surrounded by the beautiful horse farms. Please forgive my dictation typos.
