Carmine's Story

Life Updated 2-28-08 Most Classmates just read these and don't email. I've been married for 42 years to Maryann Mylenek related to the Mylenek clan on Candler Str. in Highland Park. My wife graduated from St. Rita HS in 62 and Mercy College in '66. We have three kids-2 daughters and a son. Married at St. Benedict Church in '66. My uncle Fr. George Fortuna, and Fr.Dave Feighan officiated. Have many fond memories of St. Benedict in Highland Park and most of the people I went to school with.I tell my kids my greatest education wasn't always in the classroom, but with the friendships, and the happy stuff we had so much fun doing. I am sure all of us have bragging rights about all the good things we have achieved or survived, or endured over the years. For me St. Bens, was formative and good character building because of the great faculty and kids that went there;whether it sounds corny or not to say it that way.I look forward to hearing from people I have not seen for many years. The memory of those four years 52-56 at St. Benedicts, I never forget. And, also my Nevada and Conant neighborhood.....My friends who went to Pershing......we attended the neighborhood reunions at the VFW a few years.over there on Sherwood in Warren.....memory lane..... my brother ,Louie sister Shirley, my Fortuna cousins all went to Pershing....and last but leas, we went to a CONANT GARDENS reunion some years ago...held at the Elizabeth Knapp Library on Conant near Davison....met many Garde...Expand for more
ners...who lived on Binder, Wexford, Revere ...etc....not to mention tracking all my friends who went to Corpus Christi and St. Barts Grade schools...!!! I went on to College at Highland Park JC, Wayne State, Eastern MI, UD briefly, Merril Palmer Institute, Union Institute all the way to a Ph.D. in Psychology. I have worked in Mt. Clemens, Michigan for 35 years-as a clinical and forensic psychologist. My kids all work in the computer or marketing areas. My wife MaryAnn retired from National City Bank after 27 years. For the past several years we spend summmers at the Stratford Festival in Ontario at plays and being tourists. After graduation from college I subbed teaching at many elem and middle schools in Warren. My early career including teaching American History at Detroit Cass Tech, English at Detroit Osborne HS, and Spanish and English at Detroit Northern HS in Detroit. I have many fond memories of Northern students. "Go Eskies!"I also taught Spanish at Keller Middle School in Royal Oak. My final year of public school I taught at Mott HS in Warren in English and as yearbook and newspaper advisor. The great school rivalry between the Mott Marauders and the Cousino Patriots was a highlight....Not to mention yearbook students climbing a firetruck ladder to take pictures of the school for the '68 yearbook. Later during the 1990's I returned to teaching Criminal Justice at Wayne University and Psychology at Oakland Community College. Email me or write a note. .
