Carol's Story

Lived in Oregon, Calif and New Mexico while growing up. I spent most of my elementary years in Coquille and Greenacres, Oregon. My 8th grade and first 3 months of 9th grade were in Newberg, Oregon. I went to Luther Burbank Jr High in Burbank, California, for most of the 9th grade, and was a Sophomore at Sandia High School in Albuquerque (1960-61), New Mexico. My last two years were at Newberg High School in Oregon (1961-63). At Sandia I participated in the marching band, and sang at several school events & activities. Dave Gentry could usually be found playing piano for me. At Newberg I was active in many things, including Tigerettes, dance team, and student council. As usual, my friends could often find me singing for dances located througout the local area, or different school functions. I sang professionally from age 15 to 20, which included performing with various bands and at the Thunderbird on the river in Portland. I quit singing when I married Tom Neelings in 1965. We moved to Las Vegas in 1969 and were divorced in 1971. I was a single mom raising a terrific daughter (Tomi Sue) for almost 20 years. I married Paul Robertson when I moved to Blackfoot, Idaho, in 1990. People think that I must have been an entertainer while living in Vegas, but I worked 8 1/2 years for the telephone company and 13 years for a photographic company. No interest in pursuing a singing career during those years. I began singing again after I started working for the Blackfoot School Dist in 1991. I perform using Ka...Expand for more
raoke music. I have my own equipment for smaller events, and also sing every year at the East Idaho State Fair and a few other large venues. It's more of an expensive hobby than anything else, but I love performing and sing country, R&R, pop, blues, and whatever else suits my fancy. I have been very blessed to have a strong singing voice that hasn't faded yet with age. Notice I said "yet". I know the time will come, and probably sooner than later...... Paul and I have been happily married for 21 years and we have a combined family of 6 kids, 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren with 1 more on the way. I loved working as an elementary school secretary until I retired Sept 1, 2010. Paul has been retired since 1996 and we really enjoy spending time together. He has his horses and I have my music. We both love to take the trailer and camp out for a few days away from the world. We play games and read to each other (that's a great way to read the same book!) - oh, yes - and eating snack food. A wonderful thing happened to our family, most especially to me, this past August (2011). When I was 19 I had a baby who I placed for adoption. He located me and we had the most special time together for one weekend. He is a handsome and wonderful man with a beautiful wife and 2 teenage boys. We will continue to have opportunities to spend time together. For all the hard times in my life, there have certainly been the richest of blessings. Would love to hear from any old friends/acquaintances who remember me.
