Carol Hammons's Story

Life During my freshman and sophmore high school years I attended LaSalette Academy in Covington. I transferred to Dixie Heights High School for my junior and senior years. After graduating from Dixie Heights in 1973, I went to work at Proctor & Gamble in Cincinnati for a few years before going away to college. I received my degree in Public Administration from KY State University. I was married to Philip Czirr (Holy Cross '73)for 17 years. We produced two fine sons, Gabriel, 25, and Zachary 23. My first marriage ended, however my former husband and I remain friends to this day. I am currently retired from my media / public relations work in Kentucky State Government. I previously held the position as president/CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Central & Eastern KY. I still do some freelance PR work from my home office. , gardening and traveling. I completed my first marathon race (26.2miles) in October with my son, Gabriel. It was an awesome experience! I plan to run in more marathons in the future and hope to someday qualify to run in the Boston Marathon. Last year I chaired an all-women's Habitat for Humanity building project where we built two houses in two weeks and really fine-tuned my 'Bob Villa' skills. Habitat is a great way to meet new friends. I have lived in Lexington for 27 years. During Fall 2003, I was involved with raising $37,000 to build another Habitat house by gathering sponsors for friends who ran in the Chicago Marathon in October. After 8.5 years of being together I married my wonderful boyfriend Jack Russell in November 2003. We bought a lot on Kiawah Island, S.C. and we just began building a vacation home there to enjoy with family and friends.
