Carol's Story
Life
After graduating from Northwestern Ubniversity with a BSJ (BS in Journalism...perfect, no?), I got married to Mike Katzman of Omaha, NE, and we moved to St. Louis. He completed an MBA from Wash U and I worked as an advertising copywriter for a retail department store. A year in Miami (working for Burdine's and Richard's ... may they rest in peace) and we were off to London for two years, where Mike worked in the tax department for Price Waterhouse and I planned our trips. We spent every nickel (or in this case, pence) on travel and antiques, but returned to Miami in 1976. Three more years, a house down the street from the fruit stand on 57th Avenue, and our first child, and then ... Omaha in 1979. Rocky start (very Midwest, waaaaay too nice! and very "whitebread, but then, so was Palmetto!), but finally found my niche in the volunteer world. Three more kids later (and one is married now with 2 dau...Expand for more
ghters and 2 sons!). I retired in 2009 as editor of the Jewish Press, the weekly newspaper of the Jewish community of Omaha. Great place to raise a family, (people are still very nice), low cost of living, which allowed us frequent escapes. My husband is a CPA and he's expanded his practice to the greater Kansas City area, so in 2010 we moved down here. He's still commuting back and forth and I'm freelancing for local weeklies, volunteering and spending lots of time traveling to Chicago, NYC and Cincinnati, where our kids and grandkids live.
My mom is still in Miami -- and the house where I lived while going to Palmetto, (which is why I can't figure out why I wasn't invited to the 20th reunion..!), one brother lives in Pinecrest, another in Port St. Lucie (my sister's in Boston), so our family visits Miami often.
I'm blessed... I have a great life, great kids, great husband, great job --no complaints!
