Carol's Story

Life" ........... I have been married to the same fellow for 52 years in August 2022. Many of you may remember him for we were high school sweethearts.... Mike Cain. My maiden name was Logsdon. We graduated the same year from Lincoln in 1968. Previous to moving to Canton I went to East Canton until my 8th grade. Even though I did not graduate from ECHS they now invite me to the 1968 Class reunions. Mike and I enjoy these times together with my old friends sooo much!!! I wish Lincoln would have more reunions so we could catch up with our old friends at Lincoln as well. Especially since we are all getting much older! We now live in Massillon, Ohio (Jackson Township) previously in Lima, Ohio and have 2 children. We moved here Jan. 2021 after Mike finally retired from the Husky Oil Refinery. We are blessed with our son, Scott, 49, who has a home in the New Philadelphia, Ohio area and our daughter, Shelly, 43. Shelly also moved to Massillon with her husband, Bryan, and her 3 horses. In April 0f 2016, Shelly and Bryan got married in the early evening on the beach in St. Petersburg, Florida. We rented a house there where the whole family stayed. Then a month later we had a reception for them in our "Shady Lane Stables" indoor arena with a barn full of horses and invited guests. It really ended up quite beautiful and a lot of folks were surprised how pretty a stable with horses living in it at the same time could be!!! The horses even surprised the newly wedded couple with them calling out to them as they walked into the barn. We all had a good laugh on that one and our guests wanted to know if we trained them to do that. (No... we did not. They just wanted to express their joy also, I guess.) 😁🐎🐎🐎 Scott is married to a lovely gal named Sharon (they were married at the Grand Canyon on the rim. (For some reason our kids had a thing for destination weddings! LOL) They have 2 sons, Isaiah Scott and Logan Robert. Our first Grandchild, Logan, was born on my 6Oth B-day. Could not ask for a better gift then that!!!! Logan is 12 this year. Isaiah, age 10, is our "miracle " child. He was born with spinal bifida. He and his mommy went to Philadelphia, Pa. to have some surgery performed before he was born. It helped him so much and is now able be pretty much a normal kid and getting into all sorts of things. Today's technology... WOW!!!! He still has some problems, but he is doing so well for all the stuff he has endured. Isaiah is a tough little boy!!! We are so proud of Isaiah and Logan, and they bring such joy in our lives!!!! 😁😘😘 Mike worked at Husky Oil Refinery as a chemical engineer and is now, after 40 plus years, semi-retired working on different projects at the refinery. He is fully retired now ???, but I think he enjoys his job so much. Even after we moved to Massillon, he was working on projects online with other engineers. He is still active in his sports.... golf, basketball and, of course, soft ball!! He has managed to find a soft ball league in our new area so once again is active. His buddies from Lima are missing him so much and tried hard to convince us not to move. Our neighbors in Lima were also disappointed and even threaten to remove our "For Sale" sign. (LOL) Needless to say... it was a bittersweet day when we finally packed up and left our home in Lima, Ohio in so many ways. :( For several years now I am a stay-at-home housewife/retired realtor. When Shelly was young, I was the Head District Counselor for her United States Pony Club in the Lima area. That was great fun and I enjoyed working with some wonderful kids and their horses. I still miss those times and traveling all over the country to the shows and events with the kids! Shelly still shows her horses doing Dressage, so I am able to travel to horse shows in our RV and spend time with our many horsey friends. :) Love having the RV now so our friends can stop in to chat, rest, and have a bite to eat with us as well as a glass or two of wine! (LOL) In our spare time while in Lima, we worked on keeping our 36 1/2 acres mini farm running (downsized from 50 plus acres) and keeping the horses, cats, and dogs fed as well as baling and selling hay! I turned my "city slicker" hubby into a farmer, and he loves it! 😘 It was like "Green A...Expand for more
cres" around there!!! 😱😱 We slowly cut back on the baling and not doing as much there since we are getting older. Just enough to feed our horses and the neighbor who helped us bale to feed his horses also. Since moving back to the Canton area we have downsized once again and have only 5 acres to stable the horses on, but still gives us the feel of country living. However, no more baling hay!!! YAY!!!! Shelly and Bryan live with us also, so the work is even easier for all of us keeping the horses and dogs healthy plus the upkeep on the property. Our daughter, Shelly, graduated from a local Lima college as a paralegal and had worked for an attorney for many years in Lima. She later became a semi-truck driver with a company delivering product to the Lima P & G Company. Her husband, Bryan, was a semi driver also for the same company, but did over the road deliveries every night and at home in the early morning. Prior to all that, she managed our barn (Shady Lane Stables) full time. She gave riding lessons, boarded horses, and trained other people's horses. I would help her out also wherever and whenever I could. A few years before moving, she managed to get her Bronze Medal from the United States Dressage Federation. It took her 2 years of hard work and talented horses to achieve this goal. (I got my "fix" for horse shows again!!!!) We traveled to New Orleans so she could receive her medal and certificate from Olympic rider and now dear friend, George Williams, during the USDF gala/dinner. That was exciting for Shelly, and we all enjoyed seeing New Orleans. She was blessed by a friend who gave Shelly ownership of his horse to show named "Ana". Now Shelly is working on getting her "Silver Medal" so keep your fingers crossed!!! (Unfortunately, Shelly has developed an auto-immune problem plus has thyroid troubles also. Hopefully, the doctors will come up with a solution soon so she can get on with her life. Right now, her health is up and down. Until then, her riding goals have been put on hold for now.) She only needs a couple higher scores to achieve this!! 😊 Since moving, Shelly and Bryan are still semi-truck drivers for a local company hauling gas and diesel and both are now doing the night shift. Scott is busy working at a place in Dover, Ohio as a mechanical engineer. He graduated from Mike's old college, Akron University. Scott is quite busy with his job, family and their home. Now that we are closer, we are able to visit, watch the grandboys with their sports and visit back and forth, plus enjoy our siblings that we left behind in the Canton area. In his spare time Scott enjoys doing go-cart races and watching his favorite Nascar drivers and, of course, football and baseball. He was even able to drive a Nascar vehicle once and his dad enjoyed a "ride-a-long" as well as his sister also!! Scott also helps with coaching the boys in their sport interests too, plus, helping at their Boy Scouts meetings and events. Mike and I sold our cabin in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee a few years back also. (No we didn't have to experience those horrible fires, thank God.) Now we have an RV motor home so we can go wherever! 😁 We also enjoy a cruise once in a while! Before Lima, we lived in the Cleveland area. We moved to Lima in 1976 and also had the pleasure to live almost a year in Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia, then back to Lima again. What an adventure that was!!! A beautiful country and people! We left a lot of good friends there and have an "adopted" daughter, Sophie, who visits us quite often. We met her family while there and Shelly rode horses at their farm in Upper Swan. More extended family!!!! 😁 Plus a good reason to go back there to see everyone again!!! 😉 We would love to meet up with you and have dinner!! Mike and I are both on Facebook now so shoot us a message and, hopefully, we can get together sometime. Catch you later and take care!!!!!!!! 😁😁😁 P.S. If you haven't written YOUR story yet, please do.!!! I, like so many others, love to read about your life and "catch up" with you all. Take care all and enjoy life to the fullest!!!! I know Mike and I try to do this and we both have loved our time together so far and look forward to doing much more! See ya!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙋🙋🙋🙋
