Carol's Story

I was part of the Hollidaysburg class of 1980 until the beginning of our sophomore year. I got pregnant and was taken to an unwed mother's home in Pittsburgh, by my mother, to be hidden away. Of course, while I was hidden away, my mother tried to have my unborn child given up for adoption. Thankfully, a judge told her she had no rights to do such a thing. Thirty seven years later- that child, my son, Master Sargent Nathan R. Reiger, will soon begin his 18th year in the United States Air-force. Unfortunately, he is being deployed this October to the Middle East for six months. As his mother, I am beyond worried about my son, who has been my world (along with his younger sister and brother) since the day each was born. Prayers please! We had a rough start, me, practically a baby myself, trying to raise a baby! I wouldn't change a thing in my life-everything happened the way it did and it's so ok! While in the home for the six months I completed the criteria needed to complete my sophomore year. After giving birth, Nathan and I left the unwed mother's home and moved to Altoona. I finished my schooling in Altoona after we returned returned.-there I could go ...Expand for more
to class and there was a daycare in the building for Nathan. I married and was with my husband for 22years and while we had divorced we were always in contact with each other. He passed away several years ago-that was tough, even though we were no longer together, because it was him who changed my life for the better and for that I will be forever thankful. While raising 3 great kids and watching everything that each of them did throughout their years in school and the memories that were created, I often thought about my classmates from Hollidaysuburg. I have reconnected with some and continue to wonder about others. After 20 years is Bellefonte, while raising my family, I moved back to Blair County. I am the Director of Convention & Meeting at the Blair County Convention Center and have been there for 8 years now. So I am very easy to find! My sister was just in town for her 40th class reunion and she told me that they invited "friends of the class". These were people that were part of the class at one time and had to move or leave for whatever reason. I sure hope that the class of 1980 does the same and that some day I get the chance to see everyone.
