Carol's Story
Life
I've been an observer, student and teacher of human development and early childhood education for almost 30 years. Currently, I am an author and public speaker, traveling the country for the full year of 2019, in a small camper, to promote my first book, Just Be Your S.E.L.F. I earned my MA in early childhood education in 1979 and my PhD in developmental and child psychology in 1995. Both degrees were awarded by the Department of Human Development and Family Life at the University of Kansas. I have worked with thousands of children and adults from the varied perspectives of teacher, teacher educator, administrator, presenter, and consultant. In 1985 I established a consulting firm and have provided hundreds of workshops, seminars, conference keynote addresses, and institutes for teachers, parents, program administrators, parent educators, and other groups. I've written everything from program curricula to policy papers, and provided technical assistance to state agencies in six states. From 1989 to 1991, I served as Executive Director for the Child Care Association of Johnson County and from late 1991 through 1995, I managed a Head Start/Public School Early Childhood Transition demonstration project for the Independence Missouri Public Schools. I was the Director of the Metropolitan Council on Early Learning (MCEL) in Kansas City from late 1995 through mid-1999.
In 2005 I created the 7 Childhood Treasures, a framework for the evolution of human potential, based on child development. I speak at conferences and seminars around the country on how to develop your full potential using the wisdom of childhood.
