Carol's Story
Life
I am living in South Carolina with my husband of 17 years, Karl. we haved moved around since Karl was in the military but he is out and is noe the Training Officer for the City of Lancaster Police Dept and is on the county's SWAT Team. He also runs a bloodhound named Lucy for the City. I am the Medical Administrator for the Target Distribution Center in our area. I have been working as a Paramedic for our local hospital (only part-time now) and enjoy it very much. I also work in our ER and teach classes for the hospital. We opened and ran a Mail Boxes Etc. for 5 years and then sold it. Although I enjoyed the experience, I found that I am much more suited for the medical field. We do not have any children but we have 8 dogs, 3 cats and a few birds that we treat like our children. There is never a dull moment around our house.
Workplace
I have to say I have been lucky in the job arena. I worked for Wal-Mart as a cashier while attending JSU. I left JSU to get married and moved to Northern Virginia. We didn't have a lot of money so I started working in a pet supply company and worked in that field for three years. I learned a lot about pet foods and the ingredients used and many other interesting tidbits. Due to that job I have the most spoiled pets around. We then moved back to Alabama for a short time. medical person. Most of the time I think the children there taught us more than we ever taught them. After finishing my Paramedic training you would think I worked in that field but as luck would have it I went to Korea to spend a year in Pusan. There I worked as a temporary director for our recreation dept. I then started working for the school as a Teacher's Aide to a 5th grade boy with Tourette's. I really enjoyed that job. I had a wonderful time attending 5th grade for the second time. We then moved to South Carolina where I finally started working as a Paramedic for our local hospital. I saw a lot wild stuff doing this job. It is definitely an exciting field but of course it has it's down sides as well. Having to deal with projectile vomiting and lots of blood sometimes gets a little too messy. We opened a Mail Boxes Etc. and ran it for 5 years before we sold it. I learned a lot about types of paper, shipping, graphic art and so many other things there. I had to return to the medical field because that is where my heart is and I really do enjoy it. I also started working part-time as the Medical Administrator at the Target Distribution Center in our area. It is a fun job as well. I also work in our ER when they need extra help and at a track where motorcycles, go carts and all other types of race cars go to practice racing and learn how to race. You never know what will happen next in my job and I guess that is what makes it so appealing to me.
