Carol's Story
For those who have asked. Thanks for the interest.
I wasn't that involved in high school because I was riding and training horses. I didn't have a lot of friends but a few of you have requested an update on my whereabouts and what I've been doing. I hope you don't get too bored, once I started writing, I couldn't stop. So there you go in a very big nutshell!
So, what have I been doing for the last 40 years?
After high school I went to Valley College and Valley Occupational School, for court reporting. I did not complete either one. Basically, I was making good money buying and selling horses, breezing horses at Santa Anita Race track and I was still showing, jumping and training horses.
In 1976 I met my husband to be. We moved to Santa Barbara and lived together off and on until we got married in 1983. When we moved to Santa Barbara. I obviously got out of the horse business (too expensive in S.B. to have horses) and into a new sport, windsurfing. I did that for a few years until I had a beautiful daughter, Morgan, in 1986. She is the best part of her dad and me. We were together from 1975 until 1998 and we live right around the corner from each other and still remain good friends.
In 1985 my then husband and I spent one month in Great Britain. When we got back we moved to Capitola (right next to Santa Cruz) and have been here ever since. This is about as close to paradise as I think you can get.
I've been working for Santa Cruz Montessori School for the last 18 years as the Business Manager/Bookkeeper and was fortunate to watch my daughter go through her schooling as a 5 year old all the way through middle school, where she made the smooth transition into public high school. Pretty much the next four years was filled with driving my daughter all over the state watching her play sports. She was on a club swim team for 10 years and swam, and played water polo and soccer all through high school. She also did Junior Guards every summer for at least 10 years. She moved on to Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo. I didn't, I'm still at Santa Cruz Montessori School 18 years later. It is a great place to work; pretty much it is more of an extended family than job.
Am I single? You bet. Anyone interested? I've had a few relationships ...Expand for more
over the years but find myself for the most part very happy with lots of friends but no love interest. I'm still waiting for my soul mate.
Things I like to do: my friends own a houseboat at Lake Shasta; I go as often as I can. As far as traveling goes, one of my friends owns a house on Hanalei Bay in Kauai. My brother lived on Maui for awhile. Another friend is a singer and spends time in Nashville, where he sings at the Blue Bird Café and sometimes I get the chance to go there. One of my other favorite places is Yosemite. I don¿t get there as often as I would like to. In my much younger years I did quite a bit of back backing and would still like to do that again. I do love to travel and my best friend's sister has lived in Amsterdam for 35 years. That is why it is convenient for me to do some traveling, hence my latest trip (a couple of weeks ago) to Amsterdam, Paris, Luxembourg, Echternach and Viandin. It was a great trip and now I'm paying for it. My new favorite thing is dancing. I've really gotten into west coast swing in a big way. I have met some great people who also dance. I've found there are always things to do when you dance. Otherwise most of my time is spent right here in paradise hanging with good friends and having lots of BBQ's.
Are we bored yet? There's more:
A couple of years ago I sold my condo and had a manufactured home built. Yep, I'm trailer trash now. I wasn't sure if I'd like it but I love it! I have a beautiful place that I designed and very large backyard (very unusual for parks). I even have a hot tub, 2 cats and an emotionally challenged border collie. I rescued her from No. Cal Border Collie, she originally came from a puppy mill in Hollister. She has been coming to work with me every day for the last 8 years and is now very established as the mascot of the school. She is even in our yearbook.
For the most part, I spend most of my time right here in my own home town of Soquel which neighbors Capitola and Santa Cruz. One of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.
So that should just about catch you up on the last 40 years for me.
I will update pictures soon. I took 2600 pictures in Europe and 50 videos. I have some serious paring down. It's very hard to pick just a couple. Enjoy :-)
