Carol's Story
After graduating from high school I went on to SRJC and graduated two years later. Then I started my working career, first at Rosenberg's as a "floater". Someone who does alittle bit of everything -- work the switchboard, stuff monthly statements, make charge cards and be secretary to the General Manager. Then moved on to working for the State of California for 4 years, moved to Hawaii for 1 1/2 years and then back to SF where I worked in several jobs. The last one being an "Executive Assistant" (fancy title for secretary) in the Public Finance Dept. of an investment banking firm for 20 years. In 1993 I met my husband David. retired from the USPS after 38 years in 1999 and convinced me I should retire several years later. We ended up in Sonora, CA. Since I was too young to retire my sister suggested we open a Mail Boxes Etc. store (now The UPS Store) with her and her husband. So I started a new kind of career which was very interesting dealing with the public. We have since sold our share of the business and our enjoying retirement. I am active in the local Soroptimist club serving as President this year. We are both officers in our Fly Fishing Club. Our days are filled with club meetings, planning & going on trips, doctor appts. (just part of the aging process), going fishing, using our pool or out to dinner with friends.
