Carol's Story

PROFESSIONAL: After graduating from MHS, attended Texas Tech '66 - '70 and majored in psychology. Ended up working for Aetna Life & Casualty in Lubbock and then was transferred to L.A. and then Hartford, CT. Worked as a productivity efficiency expert and traveled the country. At 26 years old became one of the first female officers of the company as Manager, Employee Relations. Held a number of Human Resources positions including head of HR for the largest division (18,500 people) for 7 years. Became Head of Re-engineering for another division in 1990; a project which was featured by Mike Hammer, the guru of re-engineering. Started Quantum Consulting Group, Inc. with my husband in 1991 and did re-engineering and process design/redesign and organizational transformation projects in the insurance industry including Prudential, USAA, etc. After 10 years, became COO of an internet start-up insurance company which was sold in 2003. Retired until I saw a new opportunity to do something entirely different. Started HDS Medallion - Designer CarryAll Bags for Mobility Devices in 2011, an e-commerce store for our beautiful, functional bags for walkers, power chairs, scooters, wheelchairs, etc. Regular handbags just don't work on these devices. Our customers range from seniors with walkers, to disabled women due to spinal cord injuries, diseases, conditions to little people, These purses are fabulously functional, stylish with an innovative fastening system, made in USA and make women with these mobility devices feel feminine and a little safer. Can't give you the website url on Memory Lane, but it is hdsmedallion followed by dot com. Check out our selection and learn more about this great product! Personal: Married in 1969; divorced in early 1971. Remarried in 1982 to Bill Rady and became the stepmother to 3 teenagers who lived with us. Now that was an adjustment but we're a happy extended family. We are blessed with four grandkids (21 to 28) and one great granddaughter (3). Bill and I have a wonderful daughter, Kathryn, who is the best work I ever did! She is a lovely person and has done some amazing things for her young age (30). She has traveled to 30+ countries, graduated magna cum laude from Colgate University, lived in Moscow and Geneva, worked for AmeriCares (a disaster relief and humanitarian aid of medicine and medical supplies to 3rd world countries) for 3 years and earned dual masters degrees suma cum laude (MBA and MA in International Service) from American University. She is fluent in Russian and French and has lived in Moscow, Geneva and Tiblisi, Georgia. She was an excellent soccer p...Expand for more
layer for years until injuries sidelined her. She makes friends easily and has them all over the world. She believes meeting someone different from her acts as a window into a larger community to learn about and understand. She thrives in bridging cultural divides. She currently lives in Philadelphia and works for an international consulting firm that specializes in leadership and organizational transformation. She is interesting, fun and we are fortunate to remain close. We live in Bolton, CT a small town on a 4 acre lot with our dog, Molly, a cross between a bichon and shitz tu, since I am allergic to dogs and cats. We spend most of our time building our business through social media, trade shows, and an ongoing management of design, manufacturing, service, etc. We are doing some good in this world with our products for an overlooked segment of the population. We absolutely love watching young girls to senior women when they try our bags......they convey a real lift in their spirits and self esteem. Really rewarding! My sister Sharon Richardson (class of 1961) lives in the Houston area and was an associate professor at U of H for a number of years after being head of administration there as well. She has no children of her own, but has 4 stepchildren and 6 grandkids. We are very close and she is the designer of the bags we manufacture and market - very creative! Mom died at 102 on January 1, 2010. She was very healthy until she fell at 99 1/2 and broke her hip. Downhill from there. To read more about her and why our business is named after her (the HDS), see our website and go to About Us. There you will see pictures of her and Sharon. She was fiercely independent, very popular and had loads of friends even at the end. We held a celebration of life for her in April 2010 and dedicated a site at a wonderful Memory Park in Montgomery, Texas. It is a public park where families purchase and have sites to honor people's memories, or whole families for all types of reasons: death, anniversaries, marraiges, etc. A wonderful place! That's a Cliffnotes version of personal and professional life. I'm on Facebook (Carol Rady) as is the company, HDS Medallion -Designer CarryAll Bags. We're also on twitter (hdsmedallion) and pinterest (the same). So check us out and if you or a loved one needs a functioning bag for their walker or chair, why not make it stylish? I haven't kept up with high school people having been gone so long from Midland and Texas in general. Interesting to see what is going on with people. Wonder if there will be a 50 year reunion in 2016. Would be interesting.
