Carole's Story
School
I think the building was a monument. Its hard to believe that such a mighty school no longer stands. Who can forget the staircases, the marble, and the dark woodwork, and the long hallways? The architecture of gray cement and the tall doorways, and now is a parking lot and medical office complex of CAMC. I have good memories of students and teachers I knew.
College
I attended Morris Harvey College from 1968 till 1972. It has a new look a new name. The classrooms are high tech. The new tower from across the Kanawha River is awesome; yet the cost to go back is (a saying from the 60's or 70's) out of sight.
Workplace
I graduated from Morris Harvey College in 1972, and moved to Winston-Salem NC. My husband Mike attended law school at Wake Forest University and we moved back to Charleston in 1975. His law practice was in the Morrison Bldg on Quarrier St. I first started with Southern Bell in 1973, then transfered to C&P telephone in Charleston in 1975. I had worked at Hinkle's Book Store in Winston-Salem NC prior to working at the phone...Expand for more
co. I worked there until 9-12-03 when AT&T closed their Lee St. office. I have been semi-retired.and I have been attending WVSU and earned a certificate in gerontology in 2008. I am a member of AARP, and have volunteered at the AARP Foundation for 4 years. I am a volunteer on the Senior Planning Committee Senior Center at the former Roosevelt JHS. Michael, my husband also a CHS "68, graduate passed away in Dec., 2008.
I attended the all CHS 2013 Reunion, and I wanted to see many classmates from years past. This event replaced our regular reunion we normally had every 5 years, and I missed our regular reunion we had separate from this one. I feel more people would have attended if we had one just for our class. Many familiar faces were missing.
Update Aug 7 2019:
I attended the 50 th anniversary of the class of 1968. It was held at the Sheraton formerly Charleston Holiday Inn on the Blvd. I'd say about 100 attended. The All CHS is Aug 8 2020. Im in remission from cancer, and will possibly attend if my health is good next year in 2020.
