Carolyn's Story

Life Hi!; Thanks for looking me up! This brings back memories! Life has been full of surprises since 1971! First of all, we didn't save the poor from Appalachia, as I had hoped we would when I was a sixteen year old social missionary The environment is just as we predicted it would be, better in some ways, worse in others......but no one can claim surprise. Loved Al Gores book, "An Inconvenient Truth". I still dream of building a "green" house and living on a peaceful farm where we only eat organic food and don't polute......But I realize I will not likely ever do that and I am Ok with that. Let my kids do it, instead. Life has been at times wonderful and at times extrememy difficult, but I am happy and very blessed and grateful for all the great experiences I have had and the wonderful people I have known. I would not go back to my teens or 20's for anything in the world! I like my life just fine and I have finally figured out one or two things- life makes mnore sense these days to me. I have three daughters and my husband, Jim, has one of each, all grown now, with three and a half grands- and another one coming soon from South America! ( This is our year for grandparenting- we are going from two to five in eighteen months!) As many of you know, Charlie and I have a daughter who lives in South Carolina, with her husband and two sons. Charlie moved near Jessica last year (who ever thought he'd be...Expand for more
a Southern Boy one day?) and we enjoy being grandparents and friends these days. I have a daughter who lives in Winchester with her husband and they are expecting and another daughter who lives with Jim and I while she continues her education and raises her son. He is pure delight for "Poppi" and I and since we never got to raise a small child together, we have a ball playing with Orion ....... "Grandchildren; the Fountain of Youth!" Jim and I will be moving to Georgia soon, where he works doing something with money that I couldn't possibly do, but he is very good at it, and my dreams of returning South again are coming true. We are building a house- too big really-- but with such a large family (five kids, spouses & grandkids, six sib's, and parents ---well we will need all the guest rooms we will have! I hope to go to grad school (do they have grandma' grad school in Georgia?) write, work on my hobbies and raising my grands. After working so hard, sixty hours a week for most of my working years, I am going to enjoy a more relaxed life style and get in better shape. Jim and I went to Bermuda last year with his company. I was the first real travel I have ever experienced, and we look forward to traveling more in the future. I would live ther permanently if I could take all our kids with me! I have heard from a few of you. It's great! I would love to hear from you also. Carol Gable Basinger
