Carolyn's Story
My Life
Hi,
I am currently working in the field of Social Work. I have a Masters Degree in Social Work. I have been working in the field of Chemical Dependency for the past six years. I completed my education out of state at an HBCU (Clark Atlanta University). I have worked for Key Decisions Driver Intervention program and Positive Choices Inc. I have also worked at New Life Community Homeless Shelter, Recovery Resources, and Fresh Start Inc. I am currently working in the mental health field with children and their families in the community. I have also worked with different populations in the past. I have a very busy schedule but I like to take time out for myself when I can. I lost my cat Chloe. But, my sister has one of her kittens that reminds me of her. I go to self-help meetings and I love to catch up with old friends. God has been very good to me. I have been truly blessed by His Grace and Mercy.
Workplace
I help people build on their strengths and teach them how to live positive, productive lives through empowerment. Everyone has a past and the past is the past. We cannot change it, but we can change the future and ourselves with hard work, determination, and effort. In the words of Martin Luther King Jr. "Always feel that you have worth"
Military
Attempted it in the past but it did not work out. I hope my friends remember me as being a fun person.
I always wanted to be a Psychiatrist when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right.
I listen to music to relax.
The wildest thing I ever did was play hide and seek in the middle of the night at a Shaker Heights park. It was soooo much fun. And then we went skinny dipping. Everyone was wet but it was summer time so we did not care.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have values, a voice, and...Expand for more
vision to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
My hero is my mother. She is everything I ever wanted to be as a woman. She is filled with kindness, respect, compassion, and forgiveness. She is the true form of humility, meekness, and humbleness. I have never know anyone like her.
I lived in Atlanta, Georgia while I attended school there. I came back to Cleveland because I missed my family and good friends. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is a guy named Reese from Chicago who I worked with for a while back in 1991 at Bob Evans. He was the finest man I'd ever seen and we lost contact when he went back to Chicago. I still love you Reese.
I love the Browns and the Cavaliers. My favorite players are Lebron James and Braylon Edwards. I also like Josh Cribbs. I am a devoted fan of my home teams. The Indians are ok too.
Life doesn't always turn out the way you expect but God has a way of putting you just where He wants you to be. My biggest surprise is my chosen profession. Twenty years ago, no one could have told me that I'd be where I am today.
The one teacher I would love to see again is my chemistry teacher Mr. Oppenheim. He once told me that I was very smart but that I wouldn't apply myself to anything long enough to be something. Thanks Mr. Oppenhiem for giving me the fuel I needed to apply myself.
Living on campus at CAU was fun and exciting. I met alot of people from all over the US. I made alot of new friends who I still keep in contact with. The classroom was the most awesome experience. I had some awesome professors who opened my eyes to alot of things. Thank you Professor Hattie Mitchell, Dr. Kosak, Dr. Waymer, Professor Breedlove, and the many others who challenged my mind, and opened my heart. Thanks to my awesome roomates also for their support. I miss you guys. See you on MySpace.
