Kerri/Carolyn Schwartz:

CLASS OF 1970
Rolling hills estates, CA

Kerri/Carolyn's Story

Life I grew up in the South Bay and went to college at Cal State Dominguez..After college, jobjobs until 1990..about 20 years of sales related corporate jobjobs... Then..I gave it all up for a career in the arts.. music and acting...spent 9 years as Carla, Queen of Karaoke in the bars and restaurants and hotels of LA...The last 6 years I have been a traveling entertainer/educator/all around fun kind of gal for the senior citizens in the South Bay in board and care houses...many of them in Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills Estates...I spend every Wednesday on the hill, eat at Bristol Farms and drive past the high school...now called Peninsula..I love my life and am now working on a reality-based show about my life and the houses as well as a sitcom based on my life and travels and experiences as the Queen of Karaoke.. Then, of course, there's the book and CD also in the planning stages..You can hear my song "Not Now" on the net at songpeddler.com listed under the author's name..Bruce Antman...I am the female vocalist...The funny thing is, it finally is NOW.... College College was really a place to get away from home.. although I went to a local college, I stayed at school as long as possible, with rehearsals for choir and theatre productions as well as part time jobs at the College Bookstore and the Theatre Box Office... I mostly remember doing plays and rehearsals and parties afterward...I also did academics, but more and more focused on my chosen major, MUSIC FOR THE THEATRE, which required lots of rehearsals and late nights, which meant early morning classes started to disappear from my schedule. I enjoyed Anthropology and Psychology and Physics classes...got incredibly overwhelmed by the German language class...they were reading Goethe in the original german script and I was doing ALM Conversational dialogues...I was out of my league ..This was the hippy years, with the Vietnam War in full swing. One...Expand for more
of the most vivid memories was of a "guerrila theatre" protest we staged about the war...I was dressed like a Vietnamese peasant and my actor friend was dressed like an American soldier, and we went to the humanities building and I burst into a classroom (with a class in session) and I opened the classroom door, ran in, screaming in terror, trying to hide under the desk, then he came in and tried to capture me.. We really made a lot of chaos in class and made a statement, I guess...and we did a lot of hanging out on the lawn on a blanket ...well....we were wanna be hippies who mostly still lived at home, but we did have friends who really were....College was a time to enter the real world, with racial tensions and pressures all around, so different from my very protected high school environment...But I realized that no one cared how old you were or whatever it was that had always seemed to seperate me from them...they accepted you (or not) based on what they saw....of course, then there were a lot of crises and political demonstrations so it was a very volatile time in America, and college in the early 70's was in the thick of it.. I remember we did a great play called "The Surprising Uprising" which was a satire about Nixon and his trip to China and we mixed Lysistrata and the women of Greece refusing to have sex with their men until they stop the wars and fighting and it was quite an event. I stopped the show in a scene a la "When Harry met Sally" where she verbally fakes an orgasm in the middle of a restaurant... Workplace I am currently an activity director/entertainer for senior citizens as well as continuing my acting career in film and tv. I enjoy traveling around, visiting and entertaining the troops in the South Bay, where I was raised. I also teach astrology and do private readings. I raise kittens at my home, which I have named "Tabbyland" in honor of the striped cats that are our specialty.
