Carolyn's Story

Life My Spouse: Francis (Hank) Kaminski met thru friends in school, we attended Warren High and he and his friends (their boyfriends) attended Center Line High Class of 62............he passed away June 17, 2014 My Pets: what's to tell, I am Mrs Doolittle down on the farm with the sheep, 4 dogs, 4 cats, a mini donkey, and endless chickens. I talk to them and they talk back to me. My Kids: Tracy is a college graduate working in estate management, Rebecca is working on being the happy homemaker she missed the first time round, and Micah is in law enforcement in KY. My Grand Kids: Deric is a bar tender, Andrew is working on mechanical education, Margo is still trying to find herself, Jordan is a high school senior & Nathaniel is a junior and star soccer player, Miss Bella is working on being a diva in the 2nd grade, and Liam is the story teller headed for 1st grade. Where have you lived? Why did you move? East Detroit, Cleveland, Parma Hgts, Van Dyke Twp, Mt Clemens, Shelby Twp, Oxford, and Dryden Twp. Moving as a kid was dictated by dad's job, moving as an adult was always to a bigger house farther from the city. My first job was at K-mart, where I got paid .85 p/hr to make ice cream sandwiches. What I remember most about it is I hated the uniform and the walk home was gruesome. The weirdest job you ever had: For 34 years I have been living on a working farm raising sheep but I also have a furniture restoration business and do chair seat weaving of all types. Porch weaves and binder canes are my favorit...Expand for more
e types of chair weaving. I have a spinning wheel and spin my own wool into yarn and have two looms but have not yet had the time to work with them. Lambing time is my favorite time of year but it can also be very heart breaking when mother nature is not kind and babies die in the first few weeks. I also deal in primitive antiques. For about 10 years we did Civil War Reenactment and I had a suttlery making and selling custom wool socks for soldiers. That was my favorite business. I often feel I was living in the wrong time period because I felt so comfortable in the 19th century clothing. I think I would retire to a working Shaker community if one existed. Retirement: Never thought I would see that let alone get to enjoy it but due to a fire and my parents passing and leaving me enough to literally pay off the farm! When my uncle passed we "retired" to a farm in Kentucky where my son lives and gave the farm in MI to my daughter Rebecca. Dreams fulfilled: The day after our house of 28 yrs (100 yr old farm house) burned the fortune cookie said "Your lifelong dreams are about to be fulfilled". Looks like the LOG HOME with the fireplace, custom kitchen, wrap around porch, and hot tub on a mountain is a REALITY. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is my daughter Tracy's father Danny, because he would be amazed at how wonderful she turned out and what awesome grandkids we have. Best childhood memory: gardening with my grandparents and the snake in the orchard I almost stepped on.
