Carolyn's Story
Well.. let's see... I lived back east for a long time - about 20 years spent in northern NJ and then a few years north of Philly before finally moving back to AZ. Lived in Cottonwood with a gorgeous view of the red rocks of Sedona until mid-2006, when I moved to the tiny Texas town of Mico (northwest of San Antonio). I spent most of 2007 being the general contractor on the house I now live in and am working for a Fortune 500 company.
I have a 23 year old daughter who, for the last year and for the next one, lives and teaches English in Madrid. She absoutely loves it there and I hope to visit her next spring. My sister, Valerie, a 1970 grad, lives on the next street with her husband. Her 3 boys are frequent visitors, which is one of the reasons I moved here...nothing more important than family!
I spend the weekends now dealing with snakes and scorpions, but also many pairs of Cardinals and Painted Buntings, which I believe are the most beautiful birds God made. Living out in the sticks does have rewards!
Update.... 2012....got remarried in 2010 to a wonderful man (Ken Rucker) and we own our own custom gunstock business. We work out of the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, TX. One ...Expand for more
of our hobbies is Cowboy Action Shooting - 45LC revolvers, 1873 lever rifles, and 12ga shotguns. In 2010 I was the Texas State Ladies Champion Fastest Derringer. Yes, we dress up in 1890's clothing and shoot! We'll be shooting in the National SASS match at the Ben Avery Range in Phx this February.
My daughter is STILL teaching in Madrid and my mother is now living here with my sister....it's all about family!
March 2012.... came out to Phoenix and shot in the National Wild Bunch match and the National Cowboy Action match. Came in 4th in Ladies Traditional Wild Bunch (one handed 1911 45ACP shooting) and 4th National Classic Cowgirl! Wahoo!! Had a great time and it was nice to be "home" for 2 weeks.
Update....2014..... Now have taken up shooting Trap with my husband. This past July I won the Texas State Ladies Handicap Championship and we went out to Tucson for a week to shoot Trap. Had a great time but love living in Tx. My daughter is still in Madrid but now works for a patent attorney and has a Portuguese boyfriend who's really nice.
My mother is 91 and still living with my sister.....but she no longer remembers who we are.
Take care and love what you do. Time catches up with all of us.....
