Carolyn's Story
Since I left Iowa, I've lived in Northern and Southern California, Texas and now Philadelphia, always moving because of a a job opportunity. I've worked for government, for a consulting firm and for large corporations, but always in energy or the environment. I've been very fortunate to get paid to do what I'd do for free - get involved in energy and environmental policy and strategy. My energy career is chronicled in a book, released in 2019, called The Energy Within Us. Four other African American women and I share our stories about becoming executives in the energy industry and encourage girls and people of color to consider careers in this vital industry.

essional Environmental Engineers, headquartered in St. Louis, provides environmental assessment, compliance and cleanup services to public and private sector clients nationwide. Casa Verde Energy Services, in Houston, does energy audits and designs and installs energy efficiency improvements for commercial and public sector clients.
Being an entrepreneur keeps me busy, but I still find time to make music. I play both early and modern music on the recorder, and my husband and I sing in our church choir. In fact, we both were blessed to be soloists at Westminster Abbey in 2006 with our choir from Los Angeles. What a moving experience! We still enjoy traveling and have visited his brother in Germany. Although I have cut back on some of my activities, I don't ever see myself retiring completely. There's only so much golf I can play!
