Carolyn's Story
College
I attended College of the Redwoods while working full time just took classes that interested me at first. My youngest son was also going there at the time. By the time I decided to get serious and get an AA college went from Quarters to Semesters and I couldn't continue while working. I was working as a dispatcher for the Calif Highway Patrol and we worked shift work.
Workplace
Right after High School I started working at the Sweet Shoppe in Alameda then Started at the Tele Co in Oakland got laid off went to work at Sequoia Ntl Park in Spring 1958 Closest I've eve...Expand for more
r had to a paid vacation. Went back to tele Co that fall. Worked til took preg leave in spring of 1962. Went back to work in summer of 1963 at the Fly Oakland desk at the Oakland Airport. Quit in 1969 then had to go back to work in 1970. Enjoyed working in the Drs ofc but needed better pay. Started at CHP in Oakland Sept 1971 worked as a Dispatcher with transfers to Eureka and then Ukiah for the next 29 1/2 years. Very interesting job Communication has always been one of my strong points. Guess I fell into the job I was meant to do I used to get into trouble for talking in class.
