Philip's Story
Hi all.
Well, I was a bit wild back in 1955 when I was ask to leave Paramount Hi, and good riddance they thought.
My Dad immediately got me a job as an apprentice Tooling Mechanic at Northrop Aircraft Company; the Paramount School District was happy to give me an underage work permit just so I would not return.
As it turned out, it was the best thing for me in the long run. The professional work environment was an inspiration for me as well as a great challenge. I learned fast, worked hard, made some key transitions within the various work disciplines and was within five years at the top of the Tooling Mechanic job classification working at Aero Jet General in Downey CA.
From that point on I discovered evening classes at Compton College and started attending night classes for the next five years, studying Tool Engineering. I graduated out of Cerritos College with a certificate in Tool Engineering in 1966.
During the college years I continued my carrier in Aerospace Tooling by transferring into the Tool Design Department at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach CA.
From Douglas Aircraft I moved into the Small Business community, still Aerospace Tooling, and over the period of several years worked my way through the chain of command to Engineering Manager at Air...Expand for more
craft Engineering CO. in Paramount CA. From Aircraft Engineering I went to Northrop Aircraft, B-2 Division, as: Manager of Tool Design Composites. As manager of tool design Composites I managed three subordinate managers and one hundred and fifty tool designers designing graphite composite tooling for the B-2 Stealth Bomber. I have often thought that old Mr. Knox, my PHS drafting teacher, would have been proud of his mischievous student. I retired from Northrop B-2 in 1995; spent another six years in another small business, and then retired to Klamath Falls Oregon.
On the domestic side; I married Cathy Bobbitt from Lynwood Hi. We had two children, Ronald, and Kimberly, and raised them in our home in La Mirada CA. Ronald went on to graduate with a BS in Industrial Engineering from CSULB, and a MBA from NYU (New York University). Kimberly went on to graduate with a BA in Linguistics from UCLA, and a MA in English Literature from CSUF. Unfortunately, for all of us, Cathy passed on from Cancer in 1977.
I remarried in 1981 to Nancy Felber Wallin of Long beach CA and we are happily living out our golden years here in Klamath Falls OR. Our favorite recreational pastime is riding our Four Wheel Quads throughout the surrounding wilderness and countryside.
