David's Story
Wow, I haven't updated this since around 2000. Let me catch you all up to date:
I joined the Army at the age of 29, I've got 2 & 1/2 years to retire. I've spent most of my military career in Germany. 91-94 Baumholder Germany, 94-98 Fort Lewis, WA, 98-2001 Vilseck, Germany, 2001-2007 Bamberg, Germany, May 2007 to present.
Fort Riley, KS.
Guess, I won't be making my 30 year reunion either, I'll be in Iraq. I always told myself, that I would like to finish what I started (Army). I joined when the first Gulf War started, but I did not get to serve there.
Well, since then, I've been to Kosovo in 2000, Iraq in 2004, and going back there sometime this year.
I've got a German wife and 2 sons, Brandon 15, and Christian 4. They stayed in Germany due to my upcoming deployment and other factors.

to retire so that we can lead a more predicatable lifestyle. Mililtary careers are hard on family. I know of many marriages that are ending at this time. It's sad. I've been married since July 2000. It hasn't been easy, but my marriage is aging like a fine wine. (I hope my wife feels the same way). I want to see my sons grow and be part of their lives. The telephone just doesn't cut it.
After high school, I worked for L.A. County for about 9 years as a clerk. I'm thankful for the nice people who worked there, but I was young, and that's where you go to retire. I had so much energy, and then I became an alcoholic. It took the edge off, made me forget how much I was missing, if only temporarily.
Well, I'm now 47 and looking forward to the future whatever that may be. I remain hopeful.
Peace
