Cary's Story
Life
After a "world tour" of jobs that took me to stops in Canada (6 years) and New Zealand (5 years)—and many places in the States--I have settled down as a Professor of Political Science in the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University in College Station (aka “Aggieland”) since 2000. I recently reached retirement age (eligible for Medicare and Social Security), but I have no desire to retire. After all, what would I retire to? I love what I do! In addition to teaching some marvelous students (and a bunch who are less so, alas), I get to pursue my own research interests--and they actually PAY me to do all that! I have written or edited a couple dozen books and published around 150 academic articles, and I continue to scribble away. Two cats (see photos) keep me entertained...Expand for more
plenty as well. I used to travel extensively for work, not only in North America but to the South Pacific and Europe. But COVID-19 largely put paid to that—so much is done by Zoom now. I can’t say that I am entirely upset at being off the road, though. Constant jet-lag can be very exhausting. But my dearest friends are spread across the globe and I don’t get the chance to see them very much anymore.
I have been off from Classmates for a number of years; I avoid social media like the plague. But Classmates keeps clogging my in-box with incessant nagging, so I finally gave up and rejoined. If any old friends would like to say "Howdy" (that's technical Aggiespeak), I'd love to hear from them. And apologies to all those who tried to contact me via Classmates over time, to no avail. Anyway, I'm back...
