Crystal's Story

Life Life's been interresting and I've sure come a long way from small town Grayslake....though I've actually just moved back to another small town that really reminds me of Grayslake circa 1985....ie: the Dairy Queen is the only thing open "downtown" past 5pm and it's the big social spot.....! I've mostly bounced between Lake/Cook County Illinois and Fort Worth, Texas and have just moved back to Illinois in January. I have a 14 year old daughter that I'm raising on my own. She's two years ahead in school and is finishing her sophomore year of high school right now. She sings in praise band at church and has been a pretty cool kid - until she became a teen ager.....! I think she'll live through it though, I did.... I've done a lot of things for work (see work section) and have recently picked up a project again which will be a home for pregnant women that will allow them to have a choice beside abortion. I have worked on this project for many years so it will be nice to finally see it become a reality. So that's about it for me in brief. If you'd like to catch up some more, I'd love to hear from you. The best way for now is to send me an e-mail.. Crystal School Really I remember sort of blending into the background in school which was fine with me back then, but would not seem like me now. There was a small group of folks that used to gather in the choir room that I was close to and would like to get back in touch with. Several teachers reached out to me in an effort to help me get through my home situations and some were more like friends than teachers. I would not have come through this last bit with my friend passing away without Joan Ottollino's support and example of Godly living. She is still an inspiration, and friend, to me all these years. College I never went to University. When I graduated high school, I was already doing everything I thought I wanted to do with my life. I was working as a television reporter/producer, working with people with developemental disabilities and singing professionally. I wanted to go to Columbia...Expand for more
in Chicago, but I didn't think I wanted to quit my job in tv to go learn how to make tv.....course I was teenager back then and knew everything anyhow....! I have been considering going to school to become a counselor though of late as I think it will help me to offer more to the folks that pass through the home I want to open soon. Workplace I've been blessed to do many different things for work in my life. I've done over 10 years of TV production from hauling cable to producing and everything in between including audio, lighting, cameras, directing, editing (my favourite) and even being a reporter (my least favourite). I've worked in many types of office jobs: customer service, billing & collections, computer programming, marketing material development and was an operations manager for a bankcard company. I've been a nanny, owned and operated a computer drafting business for several years that created residential and commercial blueprints. I also owned a bed and breakfast which was probably the most fun and most work I've done at any given place. I'm working for a couple of financial planners during the day right now and am building a business making healthy meals for people who are too busy (or lazy) to cook for themselves. This developed from my love of cooking, I am a single mom and don't have much opportunity to entertain, and from my learning what some of the stuff they put into convenience "foods" we buy in the grocery can do to a body when my best friend was diagnosed with cancer - she passed away last summer. Some people work their whole lives on one career and give up so many dreams in that pursuit. I have been able to do everything I have ever thought I wanted to do for work and that is pretty cool.... Military Never served in the military but I worked for a year at the TV station at Great Lakes. It was cool working on productions that were entertaining and informative to our military men and women. I even had a special news feature that was on "Navy News This Week" which is sent to every Naval installation and all the ships at sea....
