Catherine's Story

Married & divorced 3X- Have 2 grown kids & two grandsons. Currently living in a senior apartment complex in Mooresville, NC (abt 30 miles N of Charlotte). I worked for Lowe's hardware corporate office here in Mooresville. Beautiful campus, they treat their people great! I got laid off in Nov 2010 with all kinds of bennies and severance that would cross your eyes!! now I get SSA & unemployment & a private disability pay so I'm solvent for now. I am considering moving to Wilmington NC near the ocean. I would miss the grandkids but the big guy can drive to see me & my son tells me that he & the wife will bring the baby to see me every month & have mini-vacations with my place as babysitting central. 2/2014- As the song says "I'm still here". I still love Broadway & Sondheim. Grandsons are doing great! Big guy is still in remission(thank God) and the little one inherited my malady ( autism- I was always weird!).. He is 3 years & 2 months & still non-verbal. Years ago, I figured out the first (and so far, only) words. I would ask if he wanted som...Expand for more
e "um" then I would feed him. I would hear him say, very quietly, "um yum". So he can indicate when he is hungry. He announces "um yum" and then goes to sit at the table where he usually eats. My son & I think that we translated a pantomime that he began in earnest when he began to potty train. He hunches up his shoulders , sticks his hands straight out in front of him & wiggles his fingers, kind of like a stream of water. What a mind! We have been taking action on the "pee pee" signal & so far so good! Thank God I have the same weakness/strength & have an easier time deciphering him! BTW, I nixed Wilmington. Too old fashioned & poor. Myrtle looks good. I just returned from my first 3rd world country, Panama. Forget the 3rd world countries! Way too scary! I felt from the minute that I got off the plane that I had a rich American tattoo on my forehead. I explained to one of the kids whose families I visited that in America, I am poor (down to SSA only) but in Panama I am rich. Hard for the kid to understand & me.too- OK- more in a few years!
