Life I graduated from Texas A&M University in 1999 with a degree in interdisciplinary studies...my specialty was in Special Education. I stayed on for another year and a half to work on my master's degree...which I will finish one day. I married my college sweetheart, Walter, in August 1999. At the time, he had just received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. I stayed in school at A&M and taught Sp. Ed. in Bryan while he went on to his first two assignments at Ft. Knox, KY and Ft. Polk, LA. I joined him at Ft. Polk in August of 2001. Incidentally, I am probably the only Army wife who actually loved her time at Ft. Polk. While in LA, I taught Sp. Ed. at Pinewood Elementary School in DeRidder (2 years). Walter deployed to Iraq just after the war started, but was sent home in October that year for schooling. So, he got home and two weeks later we moved to Augusta, GA (Ft. Gordon). As we were only there a short time, I did not teach and instead chose to use my skills volunteering at a local center teaching adults with learning disabilities to read.
