Catherine's Story
Welcome! I have been married to Ron Webb (San Rafael 1972)-for 40+ years, and lived in Fairbanks, Alaska until recently. Ron worked for the FAA as an electronics and computer engineer. He retired last year. We have 3 grown sons and two wonderful daughters-in-law. We also enjoy five loving and very active grandsons- Noah, Eric, Elijah, Isaac, and Bryson. We also love our four beautiful granddaughters- Meagan, Genna, Kaylee, and Ava.
We have lived all over (including Guam- which we loved) and had been in Alaska for 24+ years. I received a B.S. in Physical Geography and Environmental Studies with a minor in Geology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2004. I had been hoping for a decent job, after studying at UAF. However, I have been helping to raise our grandson, Noah (age 19- smart, stubborn and has Aspergers- a form of autism). This is a full-time challenge.
My life is quite full, but some years ago, I was diagnosed with MS and fibromyalgia. This hasn't stopped me, but simply changed some things in my life. I still go fishing and camping, though I can't hike now and my martial arts studies (taekwondo) has been put on hold.. I still love swimming and canoeing- even if the water is very cold (everyone wears a life jacket- even the best of swimmers). I also enjoy many indoor activities. Alaska winters are 7 months long. ward to milder winters.
Like most people in Alaska, we had our share of animals and our share of machines. We loved it up there in the land of the midnight sun (where the sun sets at 12:40 am and rises 3 hours later in late June). That means we only saw the northern lights in the winter (best months- September and March). At the summer solstice, we could go to a street fair 'til midnight, watch a baseball game with normal sunlight at midnight or just stay home and have a midnight barbeque. Since it is so light on the 4th of July, our biggest fireworks display happened on New Years Eve. The temperatures are usually 60 to 90 F in the summer (yes- we were NOT snow-bound and frozen year round) and 20+ to -60 F in the winter. (It's usually no colder than -20 to -40 in the winter). We only stayed inside if it got down to -50 and colder. If any of you are planning a trip up here, the best months to visit are June and July (unless you are into cross-country skiing, ice fishing and beautiful ice sculptures).
We recently moved to Utah. I am in a wheelchair now. Hopefully, sun and swimming will get me a little more mobile. I plan to enjoy what Utah has to offer 'til we wander elsewhere.
I am active in my church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints) and would love to hear from any of my "old" classmates. Just e-mail me.
