Catherine's Story

My husband and I live in Knoxville, Tennessee. We have traveled a lot over the years and we are now happy to be in the same place all the time. Not to cold in the winter and not as hot in the summer. I look out over majestic mountains, not corn fields, cow lots and pig pens. (I wonder how proud the cities are to have that pork plant move in). My husband and I were "Green" long before green was cool. We recycled enough to pay for our entire wedding, rings, reception and honeymoon. It's fantastic to see people finally watching what they spend, taking care of their planet and keeping an eye on who gets the money. We knew people would have to slow their spending. However we thought it would be under the watchful eyes of our children or grandchildren. Never thought we would be the ones to experience it again. I remember a time when looking for a job meant reading the obits to find job openings. When someone passed away, any opening they left behind would be filled and never in the want adds. heir doors down here in the south. Over the years, I have lost connection with many people from UT. I never spent much of my time looking back. I made it to the ten & twenty year reunions, but never bothered with the thirty. I assume there will be a reunion in 2010 and plan on going back to the cities to attend. Wow! We will all be nearing the retirement age. I remember looking forward to the year 2000 and thinking it was so far off. Time goes so fast, I wish it would have done the same in High School. We have 9 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and enjoy them very much. We are so happy when they visit. Their fresh smiles and laughter is spirit lifting. We are also as happy when they return to their parents. It is good to know that we don't have to start over again and raise kids. We have a blast on the fun holidays like Christmas, Easter, and St Patrick's Day. I have great photos of the grandkid's and us building a giant snowman and painting it green and carving the Great pumpkin they planted and grew for Halloween. God bless all. In Christ Cathy
