Catherine's Story
My life has had its share of heartache and sorrow, joy and rewards, kayos and drama. I have spent most of my life improving my career, traveling, camping and dealing with troubled teens. I was married to Ernest Gene Hall (class of 61) for five years, until he moved to Texas. Together we had two beautiful boys. After that I focused on raising my boys, enjoying life, increasing my education, and advancing my career. Then I married Peter Goodfield, moved to Colorado, and had my youngest son. While in Colorado, the state committed my husband to a mental institution (he is currently deceased). After that I spent my time raising my own three sons, as well as a number of troubled young people, and working on developing my career.
At the time I married my present husband (Richard), all our children were grown, except my youngest. We spent most of our 20 yrs, camping, traveling, and advancing our careers (RichardâÂÂs, Electrical Engineer & mine, Environm...Expand for more
ental/Industrial Engineer) even though I became disabled in âÂÂ95".
Five years into the marriage, we lost RichardâÂÂs twin daughter to leukemia, and she left behind two small boys. Then, after my sonâÂÂs wife left him, my son committed suicide. We had a hard time pulling all of our lives together raising his children and dealing with everyoneâÂÂs grief. I already had been raising his son from birth, but after that we also were responsible for his three girls.
During my 15 yrs of disability, I used my experience with abused and troubled children to write a book called âÂÂDisposable ChildrenâÂÂ. I do not have the money to promote it, but I did write the book.
Our present goal, now that all the siblings are out on their own (ages 17 to 44), is to take better control of our lives, have more quality time for ourselves, include more traveling and camping in our lives, enjoy more time with each other and our two-year old great-grandson.
