Catherine's Story
Life
I have had a wonderful life with a great husband and three children from 1972-1985. I did medical research in each place we lived. Out west I was a long distance bicycler, mountain climber and river rafter. Then with the move back home, I raised my children alone. Now they are all married and through college with great jobs - nuclear physicist, computer programmer, and an art history college professor. I have two grandchildren - a boy age 4 months and a girl three years old who are near enough to visit. I have traveled all over the world except the far east. I play the piano and have been a regent in the DAR. I have also been in the Sierra Club, Space Coast Foreign Visitors, Space Coast Writers, PenWomen, and Colonial Dames. I love to read most books and research genealogy on my computer. In the last 25 years I have lived in Indian Harbour Beach and taken care of my mother too. I typed my mother's last 10 books and we wrote "Angels in the Bible" together right before she died in 2005. You can check them out in Amazon.com or Borderbooks.com under Cathy Rayburn or my mother - Elaine Murray Stone. I was born in NYC to old family New Yorkers. My mother became sick every winter with pneumonia and in 1950 we moved to Florida, first to Hollywood where I started school at Idelwild Elementary. My first summer here I became sick with the heat and spent the next three summers in Long Isl...Expand for more
and with my maternal grandmother and greataunt. When we moved to live on the Indian River I could stay year round and started in the middle of 4th grade at Eau Gallie Elementary School. When Eau Galllie Jr. High opened I was in 7th grade and finished at Melbourne High just as Satellite High opened. I put myself through U of F and got my masters from U of Mass, then moved back to Gainesville where I worked in Pathology in the Med Center.
As a child I loved living on the river with my friends and made pots with clay from the river, hand fed the otters, had a wild bob cat who loved to sit in my lap and purr. We built tree houses and palm frond huts, camped out in our jungle hammocks and fell in the ponds by accident every day. I went to Girl Scout Camp and Camp Wingman and was a member of the Holy Trinity juniors. We went singing Christmas carols every year in pickup trucks. I won the science fairs every year from 9th grade on which may account for my choice of medical research for my career. I worked at NASA in the summers during the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions. Otherwise I have been divorced three times. I still love my first husband as the first love of my life.
My oldest child got married this October 2007 and has two stepchildren so I now have 4 grandchildren. I have a new bow, how this works out. This has certainly been a great life and I hope you are having one too.
