Catherine's Story

AFTER HIGH SCHOOL: I lived in west Germany for almost two years to be with husband #1 (Bernie Bialek, married 1971-81) while he was serving in the army during the Vietnam War. In 1975, we had one son, Brad, who is now father to my four granddaughters. While married to husband #2 (Richard Teel 1983-95), I got an A.A. degree in Interior Design (well at least I graduated with honors). It was my intention to go on to K-State's architecture program but I didn't make it. I worked in furniture retail sales for Orman's and then as a wholesale furniture mfg. sales rep for Lane Furniture with Kansas and western Missouri being my territory. All those years, Barb Stevenson Apperson Bryan, kept trying to convince me to go into the insurance field. I finally took her advise in 1991. I worked for Aetna in Denver, Unum in Leawood, and Hartford in Overland Park as an employee benefits specialist. I am still a licensed life and health insurance agent. Just thought I'd put that out there in case you need new coverage. :-) I have a HIA designation, which is Health Insurance Associates of America from Washington, D.C. It's further study and/or a degree designation in life, health insurance, along with disability and long-term care specialty. ADULT CHILDREN & GRANDCHILDREN: My son, Brad, born in 1975 is an only child. However, he and his wife, Stacy, have four beautiful daughters Aspen 13, Phoenix 10, Presley 5, and Bristolyn 16 months. They are SO much fun! My spouse, John, has three grown children (Elisabeth, Heidi, Chip) and will be a grandfather this coming September. MORE RECENT NEWS: Yes, I got married AGAIN on April 12, 2003 in Hawaii! My CATHOLIC mother always said I could marry as many times as I want. (Mom passed away September 8, 2003 which is Barb's birthday as well). So here I am at #3 (John Taylor 2003-present). We are residents of Overland Park and split our time between home, living aboard our 47 foot Jefferson in the pacific northwest, and Colorado to visit youngest son Chip. I have always been a water baby so this is heaven for me. (I also love beachcombing for sea glass.) Except the water in the NW is too cold for me to swim. I'd rather be off the coast of California! But I'm not so sure about that now since radiation from Japan has arrived there. In May 2009 we purchased our boat just prior to the stock market crash. Since then we have been cruising the San Juan's and Gulf Islands (except John was in the hospital for a month). This coming summer we hope to travel...Expand for more
further north to Desolation Sound. It's our goal to cruise to Alaska once we have more experience with our boat. Four years ago we took an Alaskan cruise and need I say more. We both are retired. Actually we're both on doctor ordered disability since 2005. I was diagnosed with RA among other autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, same disease Barb had). And John lost his left leg in 2005 due to a misdiagnosed blood clot. So believe me when I say life has not been a picnic for us. And it is so frustrating not being able to do the things you love. SO.......needless to say, we decided to travel and purchased our RV in 2004 thinking we'd only have about 4 weeks per year to travel. Little did we know what would happen in 2005. Then in 2009 we decided to add boating while we were physically able or at least be somewhere in the general neighborhood of able and willing. Recently I heard a comedian say that the baby boomer generation were on drugs but now we're on medication!! LOL CATHERINE TAYLOR DESIGNS IS BORN: After being pulled out of corporate life, I taught myself to bead finding it therapeutic. And since then I have advanced to bead embroidery and beadweaving. Two of my bead embroidered cuff bracelets have won three awards in 2010 (I posted them in my photo gallery). Currently, I have a cuff and bib necklace in competition and hope to enter another upcoming competition. Judges look for unusual use of materials so some may seem off the wall to you but that's what the judges look for. Take a look for yourself. Check out Fire Mountain Gems (Grants Pass, Oregon) website. Look in the bottom left-hand column for "jewelry contests" and then "contest artists". I'm on page 6 of 17. Remember my name is Catherine Taylor. Here is the link: firemountaingems.com/jewelryartists/jewelryartists_bios.asp?PageNo=6&kwsearch=contestartist&numOfResults=20&doccat=jewelry+artist You'll also find many artists with awesome talents on these two handmade Etsy and Artfire websites. Which I'm on both. My handmade website addresses are: justbeadit4123 dot etsy dot com and beadkitten4123 dot artfire dot com. Please let me know what you think. But be nice. :-) OUR REUNION: I would love to see everyone! Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend our reunion this year as we'll be aboard our boat. But I am hopeful that perhaps some of us Argentinians can get together when I return. How about it? Just contact me, and we'll see what we can do. Hugs & best wishes to you, Catherine (Tatum) Taylor
