Catherine's Story

Life Graduated BS from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in December 1991. My job moved me to Nashville, Tennessee in 1994. My dad died 3 weeks after I moved here. Traveled throughout Europe in 1998 for my 30th birthday. Bought house in 1998. Received MBA in August 2000. Not married, no children, not planning to do either, but never say never. Mom died September 2002 after battling small cell lung cancer and other metastasized cancers. DO NOT SMOKE. Hope to hear from some of you. School After graduating Faith, I went to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with my original major of a BS in Computer Science. After 2 years, I realized I hated programming so I began the process of changing my major to Social Sciences, in which, after another 3.5 years, I graduated with a BS. In 1996, I decided to pursue an MBA and enrolled in a local university in Nashville. It took me 4 years to complete my MBA by going to school in the evenings, but I did graduate in August 2000. I took a History of Tennessee course in Fall 1995, and have also earned my Professional Project Management Certification in May 2002. College I loved Cal Poly and would love to do it all over again. I wish I knew then ...Expand for more
how much fun I was having, even if I was poor and working hard at school and my job. I met two of my best friends in College and I am so very glad to have them in my life! Workplace I started working at Bankers Trust 4 months after graduating from Cal Poly. I started out as a phone rep and within 6 months I was spending 8 hours a day on the phone and another 8-12 hours a day working on IT projects. Bankers Trust moved me to Nashville in 1994 and I stayed with them working my way up to Assistant Vice President before my 30th birthday. Bankers Trust sold our division to MetLife for whom I worked for another 2 and a half years working my way up from Project Manager to Director. Due to office politics, I resigned and took a 5 month sabbatical and then went to work for Covad (BlueStar Communications) as a project manager. Unfortunately, that lasted 6 months at which time I was laid off. I was off work for 2 months and then went to work for LabCorp as a project manager in the EDI department though I do a tremendous more work than project management. I changed jobs in the Spring of 2003 and am again a software development project manager for digiChart, an EMR software company.
